OT: Questions about UBUNTU - anyone here familiar with it?

LEGEND ,

I am trying to set up a PHP/MySQL server for my LAN, and have decided to use
UBUNTU Linux for this project.

I am a babe in the woods with this, having taken my last C-Shell class in
1987-ish. Can someone tell me the following, please -

1. Is Apache already installed with the UBUNTU desktop?
2. If not, how can I install it after downloading it? I keep getting a
permissions error when I try to untar the download into a new directory
(/usr/local/apache2)
3. I assume after doing this that I need to download and install PHP5, and
then MySQL5 - correct?

Thanks much!

You can install it using Synaptic (System>Administration). Search for
apache2 and select it. Synaptic will take care of all the required
dependencies.

See above.

You can also use Synaptic Package Manager for this - see the
Development menu item in it.

Did you get it to see WIndows workgroups?
