Server Settings Do Not Save

Every time I need to make a change to an existing site, I need to re-enter the credentials for the FTP settings. When I quit the app. I loose them again! It’s so frustrating that I don’t want to use Dreamweaver to edit my sites anymore. Anyone run across this?

That's not normal.  Restore Preferences.

Open DW and create a new site.

DW needs to be able to read/write to files on your hard drive. Check the permission settings for your operating system.

When I've come across this it tends to affect more Apple than Windows devices.  Are you using a Mac or are you using Windows? What version?

If you are using a Mac, when I have seen this it is related to system permissions. You can use the disk utility to repair permissions or you may need to go as far as migrating to a new OS User account.

Yes I am on an iMac running the latest version of Mac OS. Unfortunately repairing permissions is something associated with the older Mac OS. Not sure if it's worth the effort of creating a new user account. But thanks for the reply.

If you open the disk utility and click on First Aid, the repair permissions is now lumped into that overall repair feature. It would be worth creating a user account as these can affect not just DW but other issues. I've been upgrading since the original Mac OS 9/X and can tell you I have done it a few times because through all of the time machine backups and upgrades, it becomes necessary to clean things every so often especially with all of the legacy features that get disabled or forgotten about over time and settings that are no longer relevant.

Just tried that as well, no luck. Does not save the login info. Tried clearing preferences as well. I really don't want to set up a new account, but I might try it just to see if it works.

Did you try creating a whole new site definition?

Only thing you can check is the User Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/{version}/Sites . Your site preferences are in there. You could manually check all folders and their hierarchy to see if your user has permissions.  Also, if permissions are ok, you could delete the Sites folder and start over with the site definitions and see if permissions are restored that way.

Looks like all the main Adobe Application folders in the primary Application folder have System priviledges while the \Common\21.0\Sites have useraccount priviledges. Does that seem right?

Yes - The applications folder can be shared by multiple users whereas your user library should have your user account with permissions.  Have you verified the entire chain of Adobe folders to see whether or not permissions are correct from bottom to top in your library?

I just deleted the entire version folder and re-created the site and... nothing. *Sigh*
