Setting up your homepage

New Here ,
Jan 05, 2007 Jan 05, 2007
I already have it set up
my site is www.illustratedimagery.com/testsite/illustratedimagery.htm
There is already a website set up at www.illustratedimagery.com
I did not make that one.
I have the root folder set up to testsite right now so that I don't mess something up and regret it once i finish the test site and want to move it over and replace the old one, I am assuming that I will need to just remove the testsite/ thing in the site definition... but how do I make it so that you will not have to type in www.illustratedimagery.com/illustratedimagery.htm

Im sure it is really simple.. but I have never done it before and need to know so that I don't mess somethin up :)

thank you

If you call the first page default.html (windows) or index.html (unix) ..
you can use htm also .. I just don't like it. .. then
http://www.yoursite.com will pick up that page automatically.

Some hosts also have a control panel option in which you can set the default
page to whatever name you like.

index.htm, or html is pretty universal as a default "home" page, not only in the root of your site but in any folder in your site as well, for example;

Go to your site

www.illustratedimagery.com   -  and the server will automatically open index.htm in the root directory

So it is for folders within the site as well - go to

www.illustratedimagery.com/photogallery/   -  as long as there is a page named index.htm in this folder the server will open it. No need to include the file name in the URL.

Hope this is what you were looking for and is helpful.
