New Here ,
Mar 24, 2007 Mar 24, 2007
hi,

i going to buy either kollection or super suite to help me with my dynamic web development as ive heard tney are the top 2.

i dont know which one to get though, and ive noticed super suite is more than twice as much!

i know i should learn php and sql but i think these will help me in the short term while im learning.

can anyone let me know which one is best? i wanted to trial the old MX Kollection but it wouldnt work in dreamweaver 8?
Do any of these packages have a trial available?

Thanks for your advice.

I can't tell you which is better because I have never used WebAssist's
SuperSuite. I have used Kollection, but not enough to give it either a
positive or negative recommendation. One reason I didn't explore
Kollection as fully as I might have done is because I prefer to write my
own PHP code. Kollection is, however, liked a great deal by many of its
regular users. I don't think Adobe would have bought InterAKT last year
if it didn't have a high opinion of its products.

One little word of caution: Adobe is planning to make an announcement
next Tuesday about Creative Suite 3.

It may be worth waiting to see whether that announcement influences your
decision.

I´m just comparing the feature sets of both extension suites : unlike MXKollection, WebAssist´s Super Suite 3.0.0 has a shopping cart integrated as well as tools for website creation, website import, dynamic flash charts, database search, AJAX powered WEB photo albums and a so-called "cookies toolkit" -- apart from that both products seem to provide a similar set of features.

Until now I´ve regretfully never had the opportunity to test WebAssist´s products, but I´ve been using MXKollection pretty much over the years without regrets.

The WebAssist website seems somewhat unclear in regards to this (or I simply can´t find it 😉, but I know that Kollection doesn´t provide a trial version.

The current Kollection versions do work on DW 8.

On a side note :: when reading the official specifications I see that WebAssist´s SuperSuite requires MySQL 4 or 5 -- MXKollection also runs on lower versions like 3.23. That said,:when deciding on the SuperSuite, please make sure that both your localhost development environment (e.g. XAMPP) and the remote server have MySQL 4/5 installed, what´s - honestly said - still a bit hard to find on the "remote side", especially on shared hosting servers.

I think it's time that developers started voting with their feet and
moving to more responsive hosts than putting up with outdated versions.
MySQL ceased support for version 3.23 three months ago.

Thanks for the replies.
Ill think ill go with Kollection because i dont need alot of the super suite behaviors but i was wondering if their login system has a 'forgot password behavior with the ability to send an email confirmation upon regsitering?

Cheers

Hi,

yes, Kollection´s "User Login" let´s you create a "forgot password" page, which will contain a form where the user submits their e-mail address in order to receive the password (this page is automatically linked from the Login Page). This feature relies on the "send Email" behaviour, that´s also an integral component of Kollection.

This is a brilliant point, also because much of what at least I wrote in this thread can´t be taken as "complete" -- I´ve never worked with WebAssist´s line of products and hence can only provide a very unbalanced view. That said: any further attempts to try providing you with a comparison or even recommendation would actually be unfair towards WebAssist, and at this point I can only suggest to contact both vendors (or crawl the documentation available @ their websites) to get an unbiased view.
