Spry Tutorial problem, DW CS3

Explorer ,
Aug 02, 2008 Aug 02, 2008
I am trying to step through the "Using the Spry framework for Ajax" provided with the CS3 Tutorial DVD and when I launch the page in IE7 (Vista box, running Xampp testing server) I keep getting this error;

"Exception caught while loading events.xml: [object Error]".

When I view the file in Firefox 2.0.015, Opera 9.51 and Safari 3.1.2 all is working properly.

I have seen the thread in this forum suggesting to select "local/network" for the Access of the Testing Server category in the Manage Dreamweaver sites dialog; but nothing has changed. IE7 still produces the error.

Frustrated (since the highest percentage of browsers viewing web pages are still IE )

I don't have any URLs or code to publish or link to, since I am just using the tutorial files downloaded from Adobe.

Can anyone offer any insight to this issue?

Thanks,
nitefisher

Thanks Ken for the suggestion, but the "Run Active Content" was already checked in my Internet Security Options, and the "Insert Mark of the Web" had no effect either. Great suggestions though.

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=12&catid=217&threadid=1332141&e...

Which has a post that points to this:

http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0321499816

Which has an errata file here:

http://www.peachpit.com/content/images/9780321499813/errata/0321499816_errata.PDF

That says this:

"If Internet Explorer 7 is your primary browser, you'll nee to take some extra steps to view spry dynamic content locally. First,
your site must be within the local server webroot; be sure your Lessons folder is stored within the Inetpub>wwwroot folder. Next,
double-click the site name in the files panel to open the Site Definition dialogue. Click the Testing Server category; from the
Access List choose Local/Network. Click Okay to close the Site Definition dialogue. Now, when you preview your page with Internet
Explorer, your local Web server (localhost) serves the page as designed."

I've already tried that suggestion from the errata at the peachpit site also...(in fact that was what i mentioned in my primary post in reference to the "testing server" process. No luck that started this thread.

Still searching for the answer. I have googled everything I can think of that might be associated with this article. Still not luck...

If you can find anything further, please post reply.

What I can't figure out is what is IE7 doing that is so different than all the other browsers here? Since they all work perfectly!

Thanks again,

I think I finally got it!

Neither the Tutorial sample files nor the Peachpit Errata mentions the fact that you must have a Server Technology selected. I started just poking around and changing different setting in Dreamweaver Site Manager and by setting the server technology for ColdFusion, it appeared to begin working.
So... Then I went back and left everything else as it was when working except for I chose not to use a Server Technology and leave the Edit directly on server using local/network as it was selected previously and IT WORKED!

What would toggling that option have to do with making a Vista/IE7 installation work post selection vs. not working having not selected that in the original setup? My hosting will be done on an Apache/UNIX server (as was this testing; XAMPP), but I don't think that has/had any effect on what I was encountering.

Oh well, if anyone has any further ideas, feel free to continue this thread.
Ken, Thanks again for all your assistance.

I'm moving on with design and workflow.

LATEST
I did note that that works....but now I've noticed a related problem with IE7.

Now the image that is being supposed to be loaded from the data set in the details region that is associated with the record in the master region, is not being being loaded or updated properly. All other data ({desc}) seems to be updating correctly. Refreshing the browser brings back the first image in the events spry region, but when you click the next record item, the image fails to load with the other data.

I am not seeing any errors and all other browsers work fine.

Has anyone seen or had that problem too?

IE just seems to reak! I see now why so many negative comments have encompassed the globe.

Help....again,

nitefisher
