Tools/Clean up HTML empty tag clean issue

When I run Tools/Clean up HTML and empty tags are reported, I click to allow DW to "clean" it but always get the error message "Making this change would require changing code that is locked by a template or a translator. The change will be discarded." This error message has been discussed in this Dreamweaver forum, but not related to the "Clean up HTML" issue. Pages will have different empty tag issues. I try to not let that happen, but it happens.  Would love for this tool to work.  Thoughts?

Evidently, you're working with a Child Page that was spawned from a Dreamweaver Template.  You should run clean-up tools on the Template.dwt file, not the Child Page.

Do you have any html errors in the pages or template files you're using?

Run the validation tool under File > Validate > Current Document (W3C) or go to http://validator.w3.org/nu for a listing of your errors.

Cleaning those out should do the trick, but if it doesn't, we would need to be able to see your code to tell what's going on with it.

Uploading the page to your server and sharing a link here is the easiest way to get accurate answers.
