Trouble Opening Recordsets

Explorer ,
Jul 27, 2006 Jul 27, 2006
I have been using recordsets for a few years but am a bit rusty.

I am trying to open a recordset in DW8.02 and everything is fine until I connect to my local database, name it and click ok. Before I can do anything else, I get this error message in a popup window...

while executing applyserverbehaviours in recordset.htm, a javascript error occurred

I am very point and click with DW and not too clever at coding. I always start in the correct fashion wioth the three steps - 'create a site', 'choose a document server' (which I select as ASP VBScript) and set a 'testing server' - which I never really bother about as everything tests itself on the remote server eventually.

I then click the '+' sign and navigate to the db but when I click 'ok' I get the aforementioned error.

Any ideas? I have never experieenced this error before and as I said, I am very much 'point and click' so please bear this in mind before giving me a scientific solution!!

Mant TIA

Lionstone,

Thanks very much for the words of advice. Followed them to the letter but had to uninstall all of the extensions and then still no luck.

I re-installed DW8 and it seems ok now. I have re-installed one of the extensions and still working so fingers crossed.

Is this commonplace? Is it a bug? Surely the combined forces of Adobe and Macromedia could come up with a fix for this?

Anyway, once again - many thanks

Sounds like you have some incompatible extensions installed.

....so should I uninstall them? erase them? untick them? There are no extensions that I have that are being used on these pages. Would this affect it?

You have to uninstall all the incompatible extensions, not just disable
them.
After doing so, you'll have to close and restart Dreamweaver.

If you still have a problem, you might have to reinstall Dreamweaver. DO
NOT install any extensions. I bet everything works at that point.

It doesn't matter if you're using an extension on a particular page or not;
a lot of extensions are incompatible with 8.02 and actually break internal
DW files.

It's rather commonplace with DW 8.02.
Several very popular extensions were made imcompatible overnight when the
8.02 updater was released. Check with the extension developer to see if
their extension is 8.02 ready, and if not, if there is an updated version
(Tom Muck and InterAKT have both released updated extensions for sure).
