VERY DISAPPOINTED with latest DW - continuing freezes

I am really frustrated with DW. I have had it freeze three times in the last month and have to be force quit on my Mac Pro 2013 with plenty of memory.  Each time when it reopens, it goes into a spinning beach ball of death. And I have to delete all preferences.   THEN I have to reinstall ALL MY EXTENSIONS. Which takes me 1/2 a day.   The only reason I continue to use DW is for the plugins.  I don't know why it is so unstable but this is getting absolutely ridiculous.  I have the latest Mac OS, the current DW.  This time it froze when I tried to change a site from relative to root.   I can't afford this downtime and still make a living.

That's not normal.  Mine doesn't freeze.

Which DW extensions are you using?

Are they compatible with your current version of DW?

Is your local site folder defined and residing on your primary hard drive, not cloud or network drives?

Hi,  I use PVII , DMX, and WebAssist plugins (for database work). The websites are on an external drive directly connected to my MacPro. There isn't enough space on the boot drive to store my home folder and business graphics.  DW resides on the boot drive, but my home folder is huge, with info dating back to 1990, so it is on an external different from the drive with the site.

All plugins are the latest versions.

I see.  That's probably why it's crashing.

To work with files efficiently, you need ample primary HD space.  Some external drives, especially non-SSDs are poor at reading/writing data on the fly which can result in fatal errors, corrupted files and/or crashes.

I maintain several websites some going back to 1995.  My aging workstation has a 2TB hard drive but I'm using less than half of it.   Externals are good for storage and backing-up data files that aren't retrieved very often.  But unfortunately they are not a replacement for your primary HD.

Can you split your site folder into smaller more manageable segments?  Or possibly archive old content and assets?

Having your working project folders on external drive can be problematic..... Move your working projects to your main drive and work from there .....
