Here is a complete accounting of the probem with examples:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1d4-kq78rI

Problem Summary:

DWR can no longer target specific tags for code coloring as it used to in 2016 editions.

Requested solution: Anyone know how to make this happen again?

Goal - accomplish what is on the right hand side of this image (as it was in 2016) without installing the old DWR CC 2016 edition.

Notes-

  1. Please Do not reply unless you have a working solution written CSS.LESS or some other JS or theme patch/hack or code.
  2. Please do not mark your own answer correct if the suggestion is to "report this to adobe"
  3. Also I feel it is not appropriate to suggest this be reported as a bug or feature request till you examine this page
    Here => https://dreamweaver.uservoice.com/search?filter=merged&query=code%20coloring
1000+ issues are opened with no reply by over 100 users including myself, since 2017.

Lastly, this is a duplicate of this post

https://community.adobe.com/t5/dreamweaver/locked-can-not-color-specific-tags-using-main-less/m-p/10...

as a result of vastly unprofessional behavior by someone claiming to be "an adobe support professional". I hope we can get a more positive chain going here, one which seeks to resolve the issue.

Other proposed solutions:

Perhaps we can help bring attention to this issue by making ur voices heard and voting on the 1000+ issues here:  https://dreamweaver.uservoice.com/search?filter=merged&query=code%20coloring

Correct answer by Jon Fritz II | Adobe Community Professional

1. Go here and download a .zip of the extension: https://github.com/jzmstrjp/brackets---color-the-tag-name (click the Clone or Download button)

2. Pull the folder called "brackets---color-the-tag-master" out of the .zip file

3. Turn on your system's Hidden Folders

4. Place the folder from step 2 in C > Users > your username > AppData (normally hidden) > Roaming > Adobe > Dreamweaver 2020 > your language > Configuration > Brackets > extensions > user

5. In DW CC 2020, go to Edit > preferences > Interface and make a copy of the theme you want to use. Make sure that copy is selected and click Apply.

6. With the new theme highlighted, click the edit button (pencil icon)

7. Copy the info from https://github.com/jzmstrjp/brackets---color-the-tag-name/blob/master/main.less to the very bottom of the main.less file that opens (I only copied the "dark" theme's list and background-color info)

8. Save the main.less file and restart DW

At the risk of repeating myself again and again, there is no other solution at this time except to revert back to a previous version of DW before it was integrated with Brackets/Code Mirror.  I'm sorry if that's not the answer you were hoping for but that really is the only answer we have available.

I should also mention that As of May 2019, CC Desktop App no longer supports installation of legacy CC versions.   We have access to the current release and one previous version only.

if you didn't keep DW 2016 on your hard drive, you will need to obtain a direct download link from Adobe Customer Care via online chat.

In CC2017, the November 2016 release that introduced Brackets (what the OP is calling DWR CC 2016), individual tags could be colored individually by adjusting the files that Brackets used within DW.

Going back to CC2015 or earlier (pre-Brackets) wouldn't be of any use, since the files that need to be modified don't exist in those versions. The color coding he's doing was available through CodeMirror and isn't working as explained by online help files anymore.

After a little poking around, it looks like the code from your original post is part of a Brackets Extension.

Some extensions do work fine in DW, but you would need all the parts to be installed in your new version for the code you posted (the one with all the "&-tagname" lines) to do anything in the program. Have you placed all the necessary files from Github in the right location in your personal Configuration folder?

I won't have time today to test (I'm going AFK for the day in a minute), but I did find the original extension you appear to have been using at: https://github.com/jzmstrjp/brackets---color-the-tag-name

After fully installing the Brackets Extension, adding the code with the "&-tagname" list to the main.less file of my dark theme copy, and restarting DW CC2020, it works as expected...
