I have tried launching dreamweaver cs5.5 on a new laptop with windows 10 and although it appears to have downloaded when I launch the screen doesn't display as it should - as it did on windows 7. Everything is much smaller and not readable

Give this is a try (I've used this on my Surface Pro Win 10 setup in the past):

The new laptop most likely has a higher resolution screen. Dreamweaver CS5.5 is no longer supported and will therefore not be upgraded for use with more contemporary screens. The only way that you can overcome the problem is by adjusting the resolution of the screen. In Windows go to Advanced Display Settings and change the Resolution to suit.

Wappler, the only real Dreamweaver alternative.

Old software is not high DPI aware.  That's one of the problems with legacy software on modern equipment and Os.  You get a lopsided experience.  When it becomes too uncomfortable and/or inconvenient, it's time to budget for new software.
