Acrobat 8 GPO installation + MST file HOWTO??

New Here ,

Hello,

I'm currently deploying acrobat 8 standard software to some pc's.
Do I really need to create an administrative install or can I just copy the files from the cd to a network location, run the "customization wizard v8" to create an mst and then create the gpo to deploy the msi and the mst?

Thanks for any reply.
(I did find info about acrobat 7 but nothing so far for version 8)

kind regards,
Lieven

With 8 you can actually just deploy it with the mst - no aip's required.

The reason Admin Install Points were highly recommended with 7 was because you couldn't bundle files reliably without them.

With the 8 wizard bundled files are included with the data1.cab - so client PC's will know where to find them.

You can actually install 8 with just the MST without needing a admin install point.

The reason aip's were so highly recommended with 7 was because you couldn't add files to the data1.cab. The target PC had no idea about extra cab files, and patches would fail to install.

With Customization Wizard 8 - files are included with the data1.cab and are known by the target pc.

Speaking of patches though - on GPO you may want to use an admin install point anyhow so you can redeploy once you update your AIP with the latest patch.

Thank you for the clarification.
In fact, I did a test run with just the files from the installation directory and an mst created from the customizer and everything seems to have turned out ok.
The installation was done from a group policy applied to a group with computers.

I am in the same scenario but with Reader 9.0. I have found that if I create the AIP and then attempt to use the Adobe Customization Wizard 9, that there is no required setup.ini in the AIP. I too have been able to use the Adobe Customization Wizard 9 and the original installation files (not AIP) with MST and GPO to install to workstations. But future patching is important. What is the best way to install via GPO and allow for future patching? Is the AIP still needed for Version 9? If so how do I get the AIP to work with the Adobe Customization Wizard 9? Thanks for any advice you can give.
