acropro.itw in Upgrade folder?

New Here ,
Jun 25, 2004 Jun 25, 2004
I am trying to use the InstallShield Tuner 6.0 to create a transform for Adobe Acrobat Professional 6.0. I am not seeing an itw file in the install directory. I am using a Upgrade version of the software. I've read in another post that it should be in the 'Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Professional Upgrade" folder, but do not see it. Can someone confirm that I need to have a Full version of the application to use the Tuner? Thanks!

If this is an "Upgrade" product, you won't have the .itw file. Only the full version contains the .itw, and Tuner requires the .itw file.

Thank you Alyssa! I suspected as much, but wanted to independently confirm.

Hi Michael and Alyssa,

Have either of you or anyone else had issues with using the actual tuner, where parts of it just dont work after opening the ITW file?

The issue I am having currently is that the Adobe Acrobat tuner seems to be very slow to respond (on more than one PC) and also it appears that sections of the tuner do not function at all, such as the Product Properties tab, which unfortunately is the part that allows the serial number to be input.

I would normally use Citrix IMS to add the MSI and MST file to a package, however creating the custom MST file (preferably using the tuner) and then adding the culmulative upgrades are proving to be quite a challenge.

Someone else in our team has worked on this issue for several days, trying to package the application for distribution with Novell Zenworks, but to little avail. Citrix is easier, but we still need to package the app (as we have several servers it needs to be installed on) otherwise I would just install it on the server.

The issue is more that of creating a fully functional mst file using the Acrobat tuner utility, of which parts are just not working!

Has anyone done this before with Acrobat 6.0 Pro?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Regards

Brook.

What I've seen is occasional slowness when clicking on some options (like Preferences), web page errors (?!) in some windows, and sometimes the choices available don't match the product whose MSI file I've opened (like seeing Distiller options in Reader, for example).

For the most part, I find I get better results if I start with a fresh set of install files each time. So I'll keep an extra copy of the installer files around that Tuner has never touched, and make a copy of those to use instead when Tuner is acting odd.

Another thing I typically do is Create a New Transform each time. It more a habit than anything else, but my thoery is that it works better if I do that.

When you say "parts of it just dont work after opening the ITW file", are you experiencing the kinds of things I mentioned, or something else?

Thanks Alyssa,

What I was using was a fresh set of files taken directly from the source CD (Acrobat Pro 6.0) and copying them to the hard drive.

I was creating a new transform, and yet the preferences tab NEVER became available (as in it had no options available in the left hand pane. I downloaded Tuner 6.0.1 twice and tried this with the same result.

Even the part that turns of autoupdate is just not available. Maybe my source copy of Acrobat 6.0 is corrupt? It is a new original media copy.

Thanks Again,

Brook.

You said there were no options in the left pane...does that mean you're not even seeing Preferences as an option to click on ? If that's the case, select View > Check List to make it appear.

Are the installer files on the local hard drive, or a network drive?

The files are all local on C: drive - PC is current and in good working order.

I went to view > check list however I CAN see the intial screen which asks for the *.ITW file, and then I select acropro.itw and then choose the MSI file on the hard drive (copied straight off the CD) to create a new MST file

The problem occurs on the after creation when you go to customise.

The issue is that that under Organization > product properties there is nothing that comes up, in the form of customizable attributes, as opposed to features, where everything works fine and changes can be made.

I.e if I click on product properties in the left hand column, the right hand column stays exactly the same and does NOT change.

Did you ever get an answer to this problem, as I get the same problem with the Turner.

Hi Jo, I ended up having to use Installshield Adminstudio 5.5 - which allowed me to access all of the functions of Pro.

We still have problems changing the drive to W: (Citrix Server) as we had to change the INSTALLDIR parameter in one of the tables, as the parent VB variable TARGETDIR did not set all drives to another drive (what a pain).

We also ended up using the Wyse Installer (latest version) since this was much easier to use and package than was Adminstudio (even if it's not "supported" since nothing much is really supported).

One significant problem we found was we could still not script the serial number into the build (so as to register the software) UNTIL we added a parameter called Serialnumber (as opposed to the supplied serialnum (included in the adobe supplied MST file) which did not work).

Recommend using the Wyse installer instead of Tuner, however if you must use the Tuner dont use that crippled Adobe supplied one as it doesn't work on Pro, just use the full blown Installshield tuner and customise yourself.

Hope this helps. I wish I could be more specific about the version of the Wyse installer, it was with out Dev guys in another department.

It will be good when Adobe learn to program properly, our VB guru has little kind words to say about them at the moment....

Regards

Brook.

Thanks for the above, but after looking around I managed to find a fix for the tuner.

Youre going to kick yourself.

All you need to do is change the Language and keyboard setting to English US and the tuner dose what it says on the tin.

Thanks Jo,

Are you in the US? I am in Australia and when I try what you are suggesting I get an iside.exe error and the application closes. I have tried this on a couple of machines, it may be a system locale issue perhaps. Our locale is set to Australia and Australian English as the language.

Have you got the link to where you found the fix that worked for you?

Who knows if I can get this working I may still give the Adobe Tuner a last ditch shot for the fun of it, however we have a very functional Acrobat 6.0 now which installs fine using the standard MSI and our custom MST.

I would be curious on the site where you found that info, I spend a while trying to hunt it down previously.

Thanks again,

-Brook.

I had to change all my Regional settings to US as I'm based in the UK.
I running the tuner on an XP Pro machine.

The link to the page I used is below.

CLEO Support "Creating an automated silent install of Acrobat using InstallShield Tuner - Part 1" 6/...

Good luck Jo
