Can't get a package out of InstallShield Tuner 6.0.1

Hi,

I have tried for days with various settings and can't get this to work.

Product and PC details:
*InstallShield Tuner 6.0.1
*Acrobat 6.0 Standard
*PC running the InstallShield Tuner is a Pentium 3 PC running Windows 2000 professional English (SP3).

What I am trying to accomplish:
*Create a silent installer of the full Standard version. Silent means that no selection dialog should be displayed to the user.

What I am doing:
*Launch the Tuner app.
*Select the ITW file from the folder containing the full package.
*Create a new transform file (which automatically includes also the AcroStan.mst from the Adobe delivery folder.
*Do not change the features or the location for installation or any such option.
*Select to create a Setup package and to include the Win2K MSI.
*Tried with or without adding /qn for a silent installation.
*Insert a predefined User + Company + Serial number.
*Create a package.

The problem:
Running the Setup results in an error saying: "Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid."
Adding the /qn flag obviously just makes the error message go away.

The request for help:
Please, what am I missing / doing wrong in the process?

Thanks!

Eyal

Please follow the following steps 'exactly' to test if these steps rectify the results that you are seeing in your installation process.

1. Copy a new clean set of flat files to the location where you intend use Tuner 6.0.1

2. Launch Tuner 6.0.1

3. In the 'Open' dialog box, browse to the flat files location, select the 'AcroStan.itw' and click the 'Open' button.

4. In the 'Setup' window, select 'Create a new transform' from the let pane.

5. In the right hand pane, go to the 'Base Windows Installer Package' section and click the 'Browse' button.

6. In the 'Select Installer File' dialog box, select the 'AcorStan.msi' file and click the 'Open' button.

*Note: For this test please keep the MST file name the default.

7. In the right hand pane, go to the bottom and click the 'Create' button.

8. In the left hand pane, select 'Shortcuts'.

9. In the right hand pane, select the following:

Shortcuts:
- Desktop Shortcuts
Remove the following Windows shortcut(s) from the Desktop:
Acrobat Standard Desktop= *Make your modifications*
- Start Menu Shortcuts
Remove the following Windows shortcut(s) from the Start Menu:
Acrobat Distiller 6.0 Start Menu=*Make your modifications*
Acrobat Standard 6.0 Start Menu= *Make your modifications*

10. In the left hand pane, select the Preferences item.

11. In the In right hand pane, make your custom changes to the following tabs:
- Distiller
- Adobe PDF Printer
- Security
- Update
- Comments and Forms

12. Go to the File>Save menu item or o to the toolbar and click the 'Save' button.

13. In the left hand pane, select the 'Package' item.

14. In the middle pane, select 'Location' and leave it at the default for this test.

15. In the middle pane, select 'Setup'.

16. In the right hand pane, go to the 'Create Installation launcer (Setup.exe)' section. make sure the following are selected:

- Create Installation launcer (Setup.exe) = checked
- Include Win95/98 MSI Engine = checked
- Include WinNT MST Engine = checked

17. Go to the Project>Package menu item or the toolbar and click the Package icon.

18. Copy you packaged install files from C:\Tuner 6.0 for Acrobat to your install location.

19. Double click on the 'Setup.exe'.
*NOTE: DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK THE 'AcroStan.msi' FILE. DOING SO WILL NOT APPLY THE CHANGES PROPERLY*

20. Check the results and your changes should eliminate the items selected previously.

Thanks Rocky for a very detailed process.
I followed your steps to the letter and received the exact same result.
Moreover, using a disk io monitor tool (by sysinternals) I did not see any attempt to read any of the MST files. Instead a temp MST file is being created in the "temp" folder.

Anyone else with helpfulinfo?

Thanks!

Are you using a command line to invoke the installation?
In Setup.ini, what does it say for CmdLine= ?
Make sure that TRANSFORMS= is not being called from both places.

Also make sure that you have two MSTs under TRANSFORMS: the first one is the one that comes with the Acrobat product and the second one is the one you created with Tuner. There should be a semi-colon between them.

And of course, like the error itself says, check the path to the MST files. Typically the MST files are right there in the same folder as setup.exe, and if they are, just the MST file names should be listed under TRANSFORMS.

Also, just in case...make sure you are invoking the install from the package location and not the original installer files location.

Is it possible that you are creating a multi-language transform, i.e. English/French/German? If so, the solution suggested in the Tuner ReadMe is to create a package and then replace setup.exe in the package with the original setup.exe found on the Acrobat product CD. You might give that a try.
