CC Adobe Update Server Setup Tool

New Here ,
Feb 05, 2014 Feb 05, 2014

Hi Everyone,

I had a few Queries with regards to the Cc AUSST (Adobe Update Server Setup Tool). Quite simply I want to know if by having on of these services setup, will you be able to download entire applications via the local Update Server? I would think this is the case, but I would like to confirm whether it is limited to updates only, or if it capable of making the Application available too?

Kind Regards,

Stuart

Hi, Stuart.

Romit didn't answer your question but I can share my experience with you.

AUSST only downloads updates to applications, not the applications themselves.

One word of advice; if you're using the built-in Apache web server and aren't familiar with it (I'm not, and find it to be frustratingly difficult to use, just like AUSST) point the AUSST tool to a directory within your existing web pages. That will save a lot of headaches.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for that feedback, that was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for the other tips too, but I have setup my AUSST on Windows7/IIS which seems to be working ok, just have not been able to verify if the tool was doing full packages. Thanks for the info!

Do you happen to know if there is a way to locally cache those packages? I have seen you can use Adobe Packager to package the installs, but my goal is to setup an environment that require as little amound of IT intervention as possible.

Kind Regards,

Stuart

Stuart,

I'm no expert on this stuff; frankly I despise this method of licensing and I find the distribution tools to be clunky and imprecise and much more complicated to use than a simple disc-based installer. I begrudgingly use CCP and AUSST because my IT department is adamant that we cannot use bandwidth to allow our users to download installers from Adobe themselves.

What I've gathered is that the CCP Cache does include DMG files (or ZIP, for PC? Not sure) that include everything you need for a particular application. Maybe you could locate the CCP Cache in your web space and have your users download individual application installers? That seems time consuming for your users but maybe it's less work than creating a package for each variant of user you have? We only have "Artists" and "Admins" here which means I only have to build two packages and I make those available on the website along with the updates. If you had a ton of packages to make and maintain, I can see how individual application distribution would make more sense.

In any case, CCP does have some advantages... for instance, when you build a package, you're building the newest version of the applications you select. That prevents your users from immediately needing to update. You can also "Edit" an existing package to include the most recent updates so you're not re-creating packages over and over. You can also specify all the options that you would have to handle later (Killing the Creative Cloud App, Killing Air, specifying an internal update server if you're using AUSST, defining a deployment directory, etc)

I realize there's no clear answer there, but maybe it's something to chew on!

Hi Brian,

Thanks for your Feedback,

Its unfortunately that there is not service that allows CC Application manager to download the applications locally. I often think that Corps such as this forget that there are 3rd world countries with limited bandwidh I personally work out of South Africa, Bandwidth is expensive and we conserve it where we can.

Anyways, thanks again for your feedback it was far the most useful feedback.

Kind Regards,

Hi Cupis123,

With AUSST setup you will be able to update all Adobe app's. Refer the doc: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/packager/update-server-setup-tool.html.
