Cust Wiz ignoring option to Disable View In Browser

New Here ,
Aug 10, 2011 Aug 10, 2011

I have set the CustWiz/MST to 'Disable and Lock' the ability to display PDFs in the browser.  We want them to open separately in Acrobat.  After I deploy, the setting IS disabled and locked, but when you click a PDF in the browser, it STILL opens in the browser, and not in Acrobat.

I am pushing Acrobat onto machines that already have Acrobat Standard 9 installed with the same settings.  It worked properly then.

What is causing this setting to be ignored?  How can I fix it?  It's delaying my deployment.

I have to deploy Acrobat 9 due to the bug I discovered here:

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/865843

(With many other frustrating responses).

This is getting a little irritating...

Thanks for any input!

Verify the value of bBrowserIntegration. See image for the Preference Reference documentation.

Thanks for chimming in:  So I guess in 10.x, the setting exists in two places?

First one is here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\10.0\FeatureLockDown

and bBrowserIntegration is set to 0

And:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\10.0\Installer\Migrate\_D9DD5E63-3959-464F-8E81-CF2ACBCE3BE9

bBrowserIntegration is a string where there is also a dword = 4.   (Does 4 = disable and lock?)

See screenshots

From what I can tell, it looks right....

You would never set the key under Migrate. Ignore it. If the standard config options set manually via the registry or the Wizard do not work, then that's a bug. If you have a problem, you can try deleting the Migrate key for the earlier installed product so that it's not migrated.

Also note that the recommended workflow is to completely uninstall existing products before installing a new base version.

I had the Cust Wiz set to remove any products before installation of Acrobat X.  (Shouldn't that suffice?)

So, what's the deal then?  Is this a bug?  Anyone else reporting this?

Any word on this?  I have been having to go to each desk and manually fix this after I deploy this.

Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,

I just checked it and found that with Acrobat X Std, the functionality of "Disable and Lock" is working. The PDF's do not open in Browser.

Could you please ensure the following two registry keys get created after "Disable and Lock" settings applied?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\10.0\FeatureLockDown]

"bBrowserIntegration"=dword:00000000

#As per the snapshot provided earlier, looks like you have verified the "FeatureLockDown" key, but can you confirm the "Originals" key.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\ Adobe Acrobat\10.0\Originals]

"bBrowserIntegration"=dword:00000000

Also ensure that,
Under Edit>Preferences>Internet>Display PDF in Browser.
Will be Unchecked and Grayed out.

Hope, it helps.

Regards,
Subrato
