Is it possible to un-suppress updates in AAMEE packages?

Hi,

After creating a Creative Suite CS5.5/6 package with AAMEE (updates suppressed in options), is it possible to un-suppress updates once the package is deployed to the machines by editing a .plist file or similar (Macs in this case)?

Many thanks!

Hi,

Yes this is possible. I am not sure why you created the packages with updates turned off, I assume it suited at the time, the reason I bring this up is. By using the Enterprise IT Tool RUM (Remote Update Manager) you could continue to keep updates turned off so the client doesn't manually try and bring them in but instead only does so when you send a command to the clients.

The command would be issued to clients through a 3rd party deployment tool like SCCM, Casper, Alteris. This way they are installed as admin and only on your designated schdule. This might not be appealing but I wanted to make you aware of it. The Enterprise Deployment guide will give you more information about the overide file required to change the update options and RUM can be found in Adobe Labs http://labs-staging.macromedia.com/technologies/aameetools/

Hi, thanks for your response. I'm testing the (very handy) RUM tool at the moment and it's working well but I wanted to re-enable the update manager to have some flexibility (an oversight at the time of packaging). I've been able to successfully re-enable updates on my test machine by editing the AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat found in -

/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0/

Many thanks for your help!

Sorry, but I must bring this up again. I used the AAMEE Tools to create my deployables for lab Macs. As a rule I don't want students trying to update software, so I disable updates. However I now have a few exceptions and I need to re-enable manual updates (when trying to run the Adobe Application Manager I get "Updates are disabled"). I can't find any instructions on this in the AAMEE documentation and web searches have yielded nothing useful so far. How is it done? Help!

Thanks,

Pat Mullen

Pat,

As post above ,you need to rename the AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat  found at /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0/

Karl,

Thanks for the clarification. Guybrush84's post said to edit the AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat file. I assumed he meant to do something to the contents of the file, and it was not clear to me what exactly that was supposed to be. For future searchers: He apparently means "alter the filename of AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat".

You do not necissairly need to rename the file.  What you need to do is change the 1 (true) to a 0 (false) on the <supressed> key of the file.  This is probably a better practice too.  As you may know renaming things with adobe products can make things unstable really fast.

Thanks, Loynomacman. That is actually what I was looking for, since it can probably be toggled using defaults write. I'll try it next time.
