Unable to patch Acrobat 10.1.0 Pro to 10.1.1

I created a 10.1.0 AIP of Acrobat Pro and deployed it to my machines. I would like to deploy the 10.1.1 patch to them but when I do, I get an error on some machines saying the program being patched is not installed. I have a few 10.0.3 AIP deployments out there as well and all of these sucessfully updated to 10.1.1. What is causing this problem? I tried to install the new 10.1.1 AIP on one of the existing machines and I get the same error when I deploy the patch--it doesn't recognize the program being installed. All of the machines being updated are Windows 7 x86. Any ideas? Thanks!

You cannot install quarterlies over out of cycle patches or quarterlies over other quarterlies. With 10.x, installers are cumulative. Thus, the basic formula is:

Acrobat: Base release + latest quarterly + latest patch (if any).

How can I tell which updates are quarterlies and which are patches?

Would 10.0, 10.1 be a quarterly, and 10.0.3, 10.1.1 be a patch?

  1. Go here: http://www.adobe.com/go/acrobatitinfo.
  2. Download the admin guide which describes deployment.
  3. Use the links to the kb notes to identify the enterprise installers.
  4. Go to the release note library to get do the same as #3 + get additional information.
  5. If you want to do some predeployment configuration, download the Wizard and AIM.

Just so I got this right, if I deployed 10.0.1 originally, I could only deploy 10.0.2 and 10.0.3 updates. But if I want to update those to the latest 10.1.1, I would have to uninstall 10.0.3 and redeploy 10.1.1, correct?

So when I new quarterly update is release, I ultimately need to redeploy the entire application to update it, correct? But if an OOC update is released, I can install it for that quarterly update, correct?

So, when an update is released, I need to pay attention to this page (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708.html) and see if the update is an OOC or quarterly.

Hi,

  • You've figured it all out correctly. Your update paths are good.
  • If you've installed a version that you can't install over, it's true you need to redeploy.
  • I see from your other thread you are contemplating using bootstrapper deployments because you think they are easier. You are correct again.
  • Yes, pay attention to the Release Notes Library, or you could start here first: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/888/cpsid_88814.html.
