Upload linked assets in Indesign via Asset Link

Our company is using AEM Assets and the Creative Cloud including InDesign. We are happy that we can link assets from AEM Assets into an InDesign document by using Asset Link. We are also able to upload the created InDesign file directly into AEM Assets using Asset Link.

However, we would like to know if there is a way to upload assets that are used in an Indesign file but are stored on a local drive by using Asset Link? Otherwise we have to go to the browser, open AEM Assets, upload the files, relink them in the InDesign file using Asset Link and only then we can upload the InDesign file using Asset Link - quite a tedious process.
