when to install AdobePDFSettings11-mul.msi

Hello Adobe Enterprise Deployment,

When do I install the PDF Settings CS6 that is given in the exceptions payload? I have the following in my ExceptionInfo.txt file

###################################### Command to install PDF Settings CS6 ######################################
msiexec.exe /i AdobePDFSettings11-mul.msi ADOBE_SETUP=1 /qn

###################################### Command to install Acrobat X Pro ######################################
msiexec.exe /i AcroPro.msi EULA_ACCEPT=NO REGISTRATION_SUPPRESS=YES SUITEMODE=1 INSTALLLEVEL=101 AS_DISABLE_LEGACY_COLOR=1 IGNOREAAM=1 TRANSFORMS=en_US.mst /qn
msiexec.exe /p AcrobatUpd1011.msp /qn

From the Deployment Guide (http://wwwimages.adobe.com/www.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/creativesuite/pdfs/AdobeApplica...)

I need to install Acrobat before installing the rest of CS6 but i cannot find any discussion on the AdobePDFSettings11-mul.msi

So I'm guessing I do the following install order

1. uninstall previous versions of CS using http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

2. download and install AAMEE 3.0 on my Windows Server, http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html

3. create an installation package using AAMEE 3.0, my Adobe ID and serial#. Note for ghosting/cloning I need to; a) create CS6 trial package b) create a serialization file

4. copy this package onto my client workstations

5. install AdobePDFSettings from the exceptions folder

6. install AcroPro.msi from the exceptions folder

7. install AcrobatUpd1011.msp from the exceptions folder

8. install Build\CS6MasterAll.msi (or whatever you named it using AAMEE 3.0)

9. install the rest of exception files

10. make a ghost image/clone of the workstation

11. deploy the ghost image

12. install the serialization file manually on each workstation

Is this the correct workflow/procedure?

thanks,

Jeff Jensen

hi Jeff,

The order you have specified looks correct. All the exceptions not specified in deployment guide should be installed after the main package is deployed. Acrobat is a special case and that needs to be deployed before the main package. This is the reason why we have specifically mentioned about this exception in deployment guide. Any exception, not mentioned in deployment guide to be deployed before the main package, should be deployed after the main package is installed.

Hello Saransh,

Thank you for the reply. Ok since msiexec.exe /i AdobePDFSettings11-mul.msi ADOBE_SETUP=1 /qn  is NOT mentioned in the deployment guide then it must be installed last. So here is the revision to the workflow/procedure:

1. uninstall previous versions of CS using http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation -problems.html

2. download and install AAMEE 3.0 on my Windows Server, http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html

3. create an installation package using AAMEE 3.0, my Adobe ID and serial#. Note for ghosting/cloning I need to; a) create CS6 trial package b) create a serialization file

4. copy this package onto my client workstations

5. install AdobePDFSettings from the exceptions folder

6. install AcroPro.msi from the exceptions folder

7. install AcrobatUpd1011.msp from the exceptions folder

8. install Build\CS6MasterAll.msi (or whatever you named it using AAMEE 3.0)

9. install the rest of exception files

9b. install AdobePDFSettings from the exceptions folder

10. make a ghost image/clone of the workstation

11. deploy the ghost image

12. install the serialization file manually on each workstation

thanks for your help,

Jeff Jensen

I have a related question to this. Is the AdobePDFSettings11-mul required if you already have a valid PDF printer? In our case, all staff have Adobe Acrobat X (built into core image) and only some staff will receive either standalone single applications (Flash CS6, Illustrator CS6 or Photoshop CS6) or the full Creative Suite later after their machine is deployed. I've confirmed that Photoshop will install when package is complete with AAMEE 3.1 but don't want to install the AdobePDF settings in Exceptions folder if it isn't necessary. Furthermore, would installing the AdobePDFSettings11-mul break any customizations that were previously deployed with Acrobat X?

If there are good articles on please installing CS5 or CS6 products when Acrobat X is already present on a system kindly point me to them.

thank you,

-Victor

AdobePDFSettings11-mul should not affect an Acrobat installation. These files are used for creating, editing, and managing specialized PDF creation settings in Flash, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.

This payload information is also  documented in the Enterprise Deployment Reference at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/enterprisedeployment.html
