Why is Adobe Reader 11.0.12 patch asking for the original installation file?

We use SCCM 2012 R2 & SCUP to deploy Adobe Reader patches and last month successfully updated over 95% of workstations from Adobe Reader 11.0.0 to Adobe Reader 11.0.11 without any issues.  This was the first time we had patched any Adobe product.

Last week we deployed Adobe Reader 11.0.12 with over a quarter of the estate failing to update as the patch is looking for the original installation file (AcroRead11.5.msi) in c:\windows\ccmcache\x.  The ccmcache location is cleared out regularly as it is a temporary cache location for SCCM application and software patch deployments.

Why is the patch looking for this temporary location when 11.0.11 didn't need it last month? Have i missed something with the way Adobe provides its patches?

Thanks

For what its worth, this might help someone else....

Eventually found this on the Adobe site http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/AdminGuide/aip.html

We don't have any Applications within our workstation image, they are all applied after build time.  So this article applies to our situation.

Did you get Reader SCUP updates applying successfully?

Flash updates are working no worries, however I've always had inconsistent results with Reader & usually end up just re-deploying the full MSI & MSP as a new application package.

Hi Jayman,

Flash updates are working successfully for us too.

The 11.0.11 patch applied successfully, but the 11.0.12 is the one giving us grief.

We have decided to test out installing Reader into our workstation image and pushing out updates from SCUP rather than deploying the full MSI and MSP.  Otherwise it renders SCUP useless for Reader updates.
