I am running CS3 on Windows 10 on a new laptop I just bought. When I attempt to use the eraser tool, the pointer is not in sync with what is being erased. It erases in another spot on the screen, so you really have to just guess. Any idea why this might be happening, and more importantly, how to correct it? Below is a screenshot of how far apart the pointer and eraser actually are.

Is this a 2 in 1 touchscreen laptop ?

I know it's old. I do run it on another computer that also has Windows 10 and it works fine, but it may not be the same version. And YES, it is a touchscreen laptop.

My 2 in 1 does weird things and drives me mad, like the mouse pointer periodically disappearing! Try disabling the touch-pen driver in device manager. Look under Human Interface Devices for something like HID Compliant Pen = right click > disable .. See if that helps any?
I'm assuming you were using the mouse pad to control the eraser tool ?

No, I'm using a wireless mouse.

I would also try using the mousepad instead of the wireless one, just to discount that too mkoslosk ![]()

I tried using the touch screen and had the identical problem. Oddly, I tried using the mouse pad, but it didn't work at all. The pointer would move around the screen, but could't erase anything anywhere.

I think you need to try and get hold of a copy of Fireworks CS6. I've had no problems with CS6 on Windows 10. It is still included in the Creative Cloud Suite but I'm assuming you don't want to pay a monthly fee for the subscription ?

I appreciate the attempt. I've already paid for this one, and it works fine on my desktop. I know I'll need to upgrade eventually, but was hoping to find a solution to this for now.

Have you tried running Fireworks CS3 in compatibility model?
Right click the Fireworks shortcut > compatibility tab > check 'run this program in compatibility mode for' > and try Windows Vista or Windows XP - see which if either works best for you.
You can also right on the Fireworks shortcut and select 'troubleshoot compatibility' and windows will try to find the best way to run the program.

Yes, I've tried that already. It made things worse.

OK, I managed to dig out a copy of Fireworks CS3 ... By default I had the same problem as you when I tested; misaligned brush/eraser tool.
I ran Fireworks CS3 it in compatibility mode (Vista and Windows XP) and in both cases it fixed the issue.

I ran it in both XP versions and all three Vista versions. It didn't help. You said you dug up a copy of CS3. Did you install it with the disc?

Installed from a disc, it worked in compatibility mode ... Curious it doesn't for you ... Did you try the 'troubleshoot compatibility' option also?

I also tried Windows 7 and 8. But please quit wasting my time. and yours. There must be quite an incentive for getting points. You haven't been able to install CS3 from a disc in quite some time. It's only online, and you have to jump through a lot of hoops. I was looking for genuine help.

Other thing to consider is CS3 was released back in 2007, it just may not be compatible with Windows 10. I'll see if I can get a copy of Fireworks CS3 and try at this end as I'm on Windows 10 too.

Yes you can, but you can't install it because it's no longer on the server. Good to see you guys sticking together. Those points must be valuable. I will not be responding any more.
