Hello All - I have Adobe CC license, and i recently installed Fireworks CS6. I am getting a message that the app is in trial period and i need to purchase the license.
My question is when Fireworks CS6 is included in Adobe CC license, why i am getting license expiry message.
Regards,
Srikanth

Hi Srikanth,
Do you see a 'license this software' button ? If you do click it .... otherwise please give more information, the following might be useful:
A screenshot
what OS are you on?
What type of Adobe licence, for example a full creative cloud license, a Fireworks CS6 permanenet licence etc?

Sigh this happens all the time to the Fireworks lovers of the world! We don't even want an Adobe license and it's the only piece of their software we do want, and they make it IMPOSSIBLE to keep it working correctly.
I wish Adobe cared about Fireworks! They still have Dreamweaver enabled - purchased in the same buy-out of Macromedia, why not Fireworks?
I guess they want you to use XD or maybe old school Illustrator to design interactive?

XD is a glorified graphics interface for creating UI/UX prototypes and previewing to stakeholders & project managers before the project is handed off to skilled coders. XD does NOT generate any usable code. For that matter, neither did Fireworks but that's another story.
Illustrator is far from old-school. It's still the best for vector web graphics and exporting to SVG. SVG is scalable and non-resolution dependent so it's perfect for flat colored icons, logos, trademarks, comics, cartoon puppets, drawings, charts, text and interactive infographics. And since SVG is just XML code it can be edited in any decent code editor you like.

Photoshop is still Adobe's keystone raster graphics editor. And if you don't want to buy a subscription, get Photoshop Elements instead of Photoshop CC. Elements is lighter software with a lighter price and learning curve.

IMPORTANT! Creative Suite is no longer legally sold by any vendor or retailer in any country. Adobe stopped selling CS6 in 2017.

I am getting the same message. Fireworks was/is still listed our Adobe CC license if you toggle on "older apps" in your preferences. I had it installed, and suddenly in the last month when I open the app I get a message that says my trial has expired. It wasn't a trail version. It wants a serial number to license it, but we have a corporate CC account, so the serial number should not be necessary.
FWIW I still find FW to be the best lightweight tool for editing BOTH raster and vector graphics. I've found nothing like it that can do both simply and easily. I don't want to have to switch back and forth between two beometh products to create fast web-quality graphics. Is there really a comprable replacement product?

There is isn't really a single product that replaces Fireworks, OK Photoshop can do the job, it has much more advanced bitmap editing tools combined with vector tools, but like a lot of old Fireworks users I always find Photoshop clunky, less intuitive and it slows my workflow.
With your issue licensing Fireworks, if there's a 'license this software' button click it and see if that resolves your issue. Some people seem to be getting this problem periodically.
Also as you are on a corporate account I would consult with your IT dept and ask them to contact Adobe support if you continue to have a problem.

When this happens, it's often an issue with the Hosts file. See this help article.

Hope that helps.

How can it be the hosts file if other Adobe apps activate and its purely a Fireworks issue?

Hi,
I am also having this problem, have a full licence and Fireworks has been working on my device for the last 3 years, suddenly today asking for a serial number which I don't have. When I click on licence this product it doesn't let me because I have a full licence already
Thanks

The following solution worked for me (thanks to Mark Laudenbach):
To get around this simply install Muse. Make sure Fireworks is closed, launch Muse and get the license for it by signing in. Once you are signed in go ahead and launch Fireworks, it should now be licensed. Afterwords it is safe to uninstall Muse.

THIS!! The only obstacle was that I had to run Muse as administrator. Then it licensed Muse. Then you need to run Fireworks as administrator. The only caveat is that Fireworks did open, but it asked for you to "buy a license" however you can successfully close that licensing prompt and use Fireworks successfully. This process has to be repeated every single time you want to open Fireworks. That sucks but at least it works.
@Adobe - What you have done with Fireworks is so embarrassing. You buy Macromedia, brand the apps as yours, then decide to scrap them, leaving thousands of users out of luck who LOVED Fireworks. I have to run a Virtual Win 10 machine just to be able to use Fireworks on my mac. I get it, it's old, but it didn't have to be. You crafted that journey by cannibalizing Fireworks with Photoshop and other Adobe apps. Shame on you. Those were bad decisions based on money, not user experience and satisfaction. It's a shame that I'm forced to have a love/hate relationship with Adobe.

You're talking to a brick wall here. Adobe does NOT monitor this user-to-user space and hasn't for years. EOL software gets no attention anymore.

If you had a standalone Fireworks license or don't want a Creative Cloud subscription to try Adobe alternatives like Photoshoip or Illustrator you can try these:
Photopea - web based app that can open layered Fireworks PNGs
Affinity Designer - About the closest thing to Fireworks with versions for both Mac and Windows.

The linky helped resolve a short-term problem. Thanks.
(Am I opening PNG files in Photoshop wrong? Why aren't the old FW files coming through as editable layers etc?)

Photoshop cannot open layered Fireworks PNGs, two options:
1) Export to layered PSD from Fireworks
2) Try Photopea - it can open layered Fireworks PNGs, not perfect, but the best option if you do not have access to a copy of Fireworks.

Yep the Photopea linky is why I registered, to say thanks, so it helped me out of a time senstitive jam.
Thanks for confirming that PS will not opening the PNG layered format. I'll stop getting frustrated with it.
This is why I haven't switched/upgraded because of all the legacy media that I lose functionality with...
I know I'm preaching to the choir here but I don't understand the decision making of big companies... sigh.

This worked for me. I installed Muse and then ran it as an Admin. Then opend Fireworks, (as an Admin). But that would only open files if I used the File > Open in Firwworks and it would not recognise my network drive. If I doulbe clicked on a .png it would open a new instance of Fireworks. That one would allow drag and drop to open files and would recognise my network drive. Crazy. Just wasted a bunch of time... [un-true remarks removed by moderator.]

You're using decade-old discontinued software that's unsupported. It is what it is... 😕

This didn't work for me. I have a corporate account. I've uninstalled Fireworks, installed Muse, reinstalled Fireworks. Still wants a serial number. Other ideas?

Teams & Enterprise users don't have the same plans as individual members. You need to go through your IT dept admin and have them create a custom FW package for you. That's assuming your organization's internal policies permit the use of EOL software. Some do, some don't.
Failing that, you should look at FW alternatives mentioned earlier in this discussion.

Just to chip in - Adobe haven't produced anything that can open their layered PNG files.
I have 2 users now saying that on Launch Fireworks is now asking for a serial number.
We have up-to-date cc licences.
I've moved on and now use Affinity Designer but for old file access and other users this is unacceptable something must have changed.

I also have some Fireworks commands for doing batch conversion of Fireworks PNGs into other formats like PSD for example, obviously you need access to Fireworks to use them but if you need them let me know.

Affinity Designer's is cool but still lacking a free distort tool and it ain't no Fireworks. 🙂

Agreed, and Designer seems to be low down on Affinity's list of priorities, people have asking for free distort/transform for a long time, there are some workarounds but they are a pain ...

At least Affinity Designer opens though...
