May I ask as an old time user, have not delved back into this line of work for decades etc, I have a laptop with it installed, the latest version before the aftermath, but I would like to install on latest laptop...will it, just say no, do not support and not allow me to install? Or has anyone successfully installed the program recently?

I don't know what happened, between the time I clicked reply to write my message and the time I actually replied, the discussion got locked... so not knowing how to handle it, I opened a new thread to post the reply to @Jacqui660

Well,

If your OS does not allow the installation of FW, you still have the solution to install a virtual machine

Evidently someone resurrected an old topic for no reason.  Fireworks alternatives have been discussed at great length in this community. 😉

https://www.photopea.com - Can open layered Fireworks PNGs - a free web based app looks a like Photoshop

Affinity Designer - nearest thing out there to Fireworks, can be combined with advanced bitmap editing tools in one integrated enviroment if you buy all three Affinity apps and take advantage of their 'Studio Link' feature

Photoshop - Most advanced bitmap editing tool on the market, there is a learning curve not as easy to learn as Fireworks

Illustrator -  the most advanced vector editing tool on the market? I don't use it,  but my coleague tells me so

Some Fireworks Commands for batch exporting Fireworks PNGs into other formats including layered PSDs - Obviosuly you still need to have Fireworks installed but might be useful for those who have large numbers of Fireworks PNGs saved.

Photoshop Elements (no subscription needed).

It's an affordably priced light version of Photoshop CC. The learning curve is not steep.

PhotoLine is arguably the closest to Fireworks as an all-in-one app:

  • comprehensive bitmap and vector tool set, freely combinable.
  •  animation! Identical workflow as Fireworks (no animation in Affinity or Photopea). With modern export formats: animated PNG and animated Webp.
  • excellent pixel-level control. Per layer, group, file pixel snapping and alignment. Per layer, group, file anti-aliasing control.
  • multi-page support similar to Fireworks
  • broad set of non-destructive tools: filters, smart objects, transformation, liquify, booleans, warping (both bitmap and true vector warping - not a bitmap effect!), vector blending, ...
  • great (true) vector pattern, bitmap pattern, and combined vector/bitmap patter support
  • excellent export tools and options: classic save for web, batch processing, PS generator option, and fine control over layer, layer groups, page export with multi-resolution and multi-file options, quick export, and more). Avif, JPEG XL,SVG WebP.
  • best-in-class layer stack. Better than Photoshop.
  • actions & scripting for automation! (no scripting support in Affinity or Photopea)

And a very light-weight app which can be installed as a portable version. Very affordable.
