This happens because the Eclipse workspace gets corrupted. The easiest way I've found to recover from this is as follows:1. Use Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to make sure FlashBuilder.exe isn't running as a process. End the process if it is.2. Navigate to your workspace folder (the default location is under your users folder in "Adobe Flash Builder 4.5", though you may have placed is elsewhere).Mine is c:\Users\grayson\Adobe Flash Builder 4.53. There is a folder named .metadata (on Windo...

So no one has a clue on why Flash builder just won't start or how to read that log file?

When I had my trouble installing I called Adobe and spent around 2 hours on the phone with Tech Support. He took over my machine and we walked through trying to install a couple of times, but still got the same message to view the error log. In another post I mentioned I rebuilt my system and then the install was fine, but that's a pain especially if you can't rebuild. My situation was escalated by tech support, they hadn't seen that trouble yet, and I went off to try and figure out why it wouldn't install.

One thing I discovered (after trying to uninstall and reinstall FB 4.5 still with no luck a few times) was if I tried to download and run the latest version of Eclipse it would also give me the same see error log message, which is what brought me to conclusion that a system rebuild might be the best thing. I'm far from a Mac system expert, but I think it has something to do with Java, you might try and update your version of Java? Definitely try to run the standard non-FB eclipse and see if that works.

http://developer.apple.com/java/faq/

Recently I upgraded to FB 4.5 PHP and had to uninstall the regular FB 4.5 in order for the install on FB 4.5 PHP to work - can't remember what the error was or if I couldn't start it or not. I just went straight to the uninstall.

All that said, you might try calling Tech Support. They were very helpful even though we didn't resolve the issue over the phone and I ended up with a rebuild.

Good Luck!

Dave

I was having the same issue, I'm on a Mac running 10.6.8, the error I was getting on start-up was:

"Adobe Flash Builder 4.5

An error has occurred.

See the log file /Users/user_name/Documents/workspace/.metadata/.log ".

At times I would also get the following error:

"Adobe Flash Builder 4.5

An error has occurred.

See the log file /Users/user_name/Documents/workspace/.metadata/ ".

I was able to fix the error by doing the following:

In user_home/Documents/ I renamed the folder Adobe Flash Builder 4.5. Next I reinstalled Adobe Flash Builder 4.5. After that I was able to start Flash Builder without issue.

The only reason I renamed the directory and not deleted it was because I was uncertain if I would need any of the contents of that directory in the future. I suspect the issue lies in a broken reference within the .metadata directory. Although I didn't locate the exact file it's probably one of the .prefs files that is located within /Users/user_name/Documents/workspace/.metadata/.plugins. I suspect the error was created (at least in my case) by renaming a systems directory in the projects path.

I hope this helps....

Well I went through heck and back... Uninstalling , reinstalling 3 and 4 times. Finally I de installed Tour De Flex (Shortly after it was installed, flash builder started failing).

So deinstalled Tour De Flex

then

Deleted the Flashbuilder installed folder from my program files dir

then

Control Panel - Add remove programs and selectively uninstalled flash builder

then

rebooted
and ran the install dvd and magically it started just today!

I hope this may help windows 7 users (64bit os)

Thanks,

Gary

This happens because the Eclipse workspace gets corrupted. The easiest way I've found to recover from this is as follows:

1. Use Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to make sure FlashBuilder.exe isn't running as a process. End the process if it is.

2. Navigate to your workspace folder (the default location is under your users folder in "Adobe Flash Builder 4.5", though you may have placed is elsewhere).

Mine is c:\Users\grayson\Adobe Flash Builder 4.5

3. There is a folder named .metadata (on Windows 7 there is an issue where it may appear as a nameless folder because Windows started truncating the "extension")

move it to another location on your hard drive.

4. Launch Flash Builder to make sure that this it has solved the issue.

5. Close Flash Builder (this writes the default workspace settings to the .metadata folder in your workspace location)

Inside the original copy of the .metadata folder you made, COPY the following folders to the same location in the newly created .metadata folder in your workspace folder, overwriting the files and folders that are there.

.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resources\

.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.runtime\

(as I mentioned before, Windows 7 can truncate the folder names to be without the last portion of the name, so you may see two folders that appear to be named "org.eclipse.core.runtime". Copying them will still work)

6. This will restore the projects, workspace settings, and key bindings. (the dialog/window layout will be reset to the defaults and External Tool Configurations aren't copied. I looked but didn't find where those are stored)

The .metadata fix didn't work for me either.

Uninstalling FB and reinstalling did.

I had the same issue and just renamed the Flash builder 4.5 folder with.old and restarted FB4.5 working correctly now. I have a copy of eclipse Indigo on my machine and it seems that when I added the Android SDK plugin. My problems began. I can't be sure but it may be related.

My case was this. Computer was running low on battery and turned off. Wouldn't wake so had to hard restart. After that, FB wouldn't start - crashed when loading workbench. Tried a bunch of things and eventually got it back.

It happened again now when I restarted my machine. Uninstalled FB, used the AdobeCreativeSuiteCleanerTool which annoyingly removed my whole CS Master Collection and reinstalled from my disk and it works fine.

Am hoping next time if it happens can get away with not having to use the tool and reinstall the entire CS suite.

Hope that helps somebody.
