Dear all,

We have been installing Flash Player through GPO on our machines for a long time now and since this year it always went OK.

Today people started complaining that they saw messages on webpages accessed by IE that they had to install Flash Player. I took a look in the installed programs and I saw Flash Player being installed, but not the ActiveX part. And when I manually run the MSI from the share, it says "You must have administrative privileges to install Flash Player 24. Please log on with administrative privileges and try again." although I am a local Admin (also tried with Domain Admin).

Can someone tell me why this is happening? I'm talking about ActiveX version 24.0.0.186

I have a similar issue on Windows 8 and above. It seems that the 24.0.0.186 Active X plugin is coming through Windows updates. Even without the active X plugin installed the flash test page shows me that 24.0.0.186 has been installed. On our Windows 7 machines this was not the case, but here i could run the msi manually or through SCCM.

Because i had no clue what was going on i download the executable and ran this, it will also fail, but at least it tells you what the problem is: You Microsoft Internet Explorer browser includes the latest version of the Adobe Flash player built-in. Windows Update will inform you when new versions of the Flash Player are available.

Hope this helps you out

Hi,

For windows 10/8 , Microsoft controls ALL updates to Internet Explorer and the Edge browser... you may not do anything to flash player in those browsers

Thanks

Hi, I am having the same trouble: For Windows 7, mix of 32 and 64 bit, GPO with Startup scripts used to work fine, I am not sure what changed. I thought it was a problem with version 24, but even previous versions, v23 is doing the same. Perhaps a recent Windows Update is causing this.

Normally we do not have a privilege issue when startup scripts called by GPO Computer\Policies\WindowsSettings\Scripts\Startup. If I run the misexec string from the script from elevated command prompt the install works fine.

Not sure where next to look so please advise if you have any tips.

Command to install is %comspc% /c msiexec.exe /i install_flash_player_24_active_x.msi

Update: I am doing nearly the exact same commands for all my other scripts and they work fine, i.e. JAVA's MSI. Just seems all my flash scripts are broken. Very strange and I am sure it is something simple!

Thank you
