Automatic updates management in Flash Player 11

Hello,

I know that with the latest 10 version the mms.cfg file is still the valid option to customize the automatic updates behavior (even if the new Control Panel applet's dedicated option is not greyed, I read the autoupdates are anyway blocked).

Is it the same with the 11 version? I have just installed it with the same mms.cfg file I used for 10, and still the Control Panel applet is not greyed...

thanks

Hello all,

This issue has been fixed in version 11.1.102.55.

The 'Updates' section of the Control Panel, Advanced tab, will be disabled (greyed-out) when 'AutoUpdateDisable=1' (without quotes) is present in the mms.cfg file.

If you have a 32-bit OS, save the mms.cfg file in \Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash

If you have a 64-bit OS, save the mms.cfg file in \Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

Thanks a lot, Maria.

To fine-tune it, the now greyed-out section should anyway reflect the current behavior. I set AutoUpdatesDisabled=1 and, through the grey ,  I still see the  "check for updates automatically" turned on. But, again, this is only fine-tuning!

I marked my question as "answered".

Can kb2.adobe.com/cps/167/16701594.html be updated to reflect the correct path then for 64-bit OSs?

Hi Maria, I realise this is an old thread but have a similar problem. Distributing 11.5 (activex and plugin), I have a mms.cfg file in \Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash (Windows XP 32bit)

and in both \Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash and \Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash (64bit Windows 7) with the settings:

AutoUpdateDisable=0

SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1

I WANT it to auto update now that this is possible without admin privileges. Before I installed the mms.cfg both OS's reported "Notify me to install updates". Now I have copied the file to the locations above, the XP install correctly reports "Allow Adobe to install updates" (and is greyed out). The Flash Player (32bit) vontrol panel on Windows 7 64bit still says "Notify me to install updates" (and is greyed out). Is the control panel just not displaying the mms.cfg info properly?

Hi tjc34,

The control panel and the mms.cfg should contain the same information.  Please provide the exact 11.5 version number you have installed and I'll investigate further.

BTW, on a 64-bit OS, the mms.cfg file is only required in the \Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash directory.  The Flash Player will not read it from the \System32\ directory.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Maria

It is 11.5.502.135. I played around with it again this morning - I changed AutoUpdateDisable=0 to 1 and SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1 to 0 and it read this ok in the control panel ("Never check for updates"). I changed it back to 0 and 1 and now it reads it ok that way ("Allow Adobe to install updates"). I've no idea why it wouldn't read it initially (and hope it doesn't do it on all of the machines I deploy to with GPO!).

Thanks,

Traci
