downloaded the new flash, and now it wont work on safari. Never had a problem with it before. I tried installing the unistaller but can't find it in downloads( I made sure that downloads went to the download folder). i tried all the other links for downloading flash-they didnt work. it does work on google crome. I prefer safari, so I would like it to work on that browser. I get the blocked (plug-in) sign.

If you want to update the OS, you initiate the download through the AppStore.  That said, someone tried this yesterday and it didn't resolve the issue for them.

We tested the upgrade scenario and blocklist functionality on a MacOS 10.6.8 machine and are unable to reproduce the symptoms, but we believe that they exist.  We don't know what the common denominator is yet, though.

I'm wondering if a complete uninstall and reinstall of Flash Player might solve it:

Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS

Then run

I'm running Safari 7.1 and had no problem with the update on any of my machines, but I'm hearing this from enough people that I'm concerned.  Ultimately it's Safari that controls the blocklist.

I'm wondering if simply rebooting the machine would solve the issue.  It sounds trite, but I'm thinking that there's a process that's not completely exiting or something, such that when that plug-in version check happens, it doesn't know that the Flash version has changed.

What version of MacOS are you running?

Did rebooting solve the issue with the blocked plug-in message?

Our most recent release included a security update that Adobe and Apple felt that it was important for you to get (it had shown up in commercial exploit kits shortly after we shipped the patch), so the Safari team block-listed older versions of Flash Player.

I don't have a 10.6.8 machine handy, but my 10.9.5 and 10.10 machines are working as expected.  We'll take a look at 10.6.8 to see what's happening.

In the meantime any other browser (Google Chrome, Firefox) should work for the moment.

FWIW, you can download the OS for free from the appstore and Apple has a utility that will make an installation USB key for you.  Discs are so 2009 anyway.

I've been reading a bunch of these threads, and I'm wondering if there's a newer version of Safari available.  I've got a theory that the blocklist logic might not be right in the current safari version.  If you run System Update on your Mac, do you have system updates that might upgrade Safari waiting?  If so, please install them and see if the issue gets resolved.  If that works, we can start recommending it to people running into this.

Thanks!

We have had the same problem and lack of success finding a solution for a MacBook (OSX 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10).  Software Update says we are up to date, but I see that there are other versions (more recent) of Safari, e.g., 6.2 for OS X 10.8.5.  I am not sure why Software Update says we are up to date in these circumstances, unless, perhaps, because our version of MacBook is an older one (it's about 18 mos old).

I received confirmation from someone this afternoon that doing a completely uninstall/reinstall as described above resolved this for them.  Please let me know if this works for you.
