OK, you don't have to worry about either installation then.

As to not being able to copy/paste, the reason could be due to the way the Flash application has been designed. You could maybe consider using an alternative like this one: http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/aviarys-html5-image-editor/

Here's a couple more: http://www.makeuseof.com/dir/?s=Flash+based+editors

All you can do in this situation is to take a screenshot by hitting the PrtScrn key. Then open the image in Paint or whatever app you use and edit it from there.

By the way, the version of Flash you have installed at the moment is a security risk and exposes your system to attack. Download the latest version which is 11.1.102.55 from here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Also, you might have missed the update to Adobe Shockwave as well: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

Than you for the advice and for the tips.

I can take a screenshot which solves the problem of copying.

But what can I do If I, say, have an image on the clipboard and want to past it into the graphics utility?

Best wishes.

I have just checked my browser having updated.

I now have the latest Flash,

but, I seem to have Shockwave version: 11.6.3.629, despite apparently downloading version 11.6.3.633!

Do you have the latest version of Quicktime which is 7.7.1? If not, then download that from here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

Shockwave needs Quicktime to function properly. After you install it, try download Shockwave again: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

What's the name of the Flash graphics editor that you're using?

Thanks for responding.

I have the latest Quicktime Player installed.

Shockwave seems to have disappeared form my browser plugin folder! Flash is still installed.

I'll try again to download Shockwave.

I don't have an editor as such, I am using a graphics utility that uses Flash.

Any thoughts on pasting images from th clipboard into a Flash supported graphics utility?

Best wishes.

Just downloaded Shockwave again.

Once again, I seem to have installed ver 11.6.3.629.

I'll wait and see if it disappears after I logoff!

Do the following.

  1. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Director
  2. Find the file called np32dsw.dll and rename it to Xnp32dsw.dll
  3. Download Shockwave from here: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/
  4. After the file downloads, right click it and go to Properties and then click the Version tab.
  5. Verify that the file version is 11.6.3.633
  6. Install

Should work.

Thanks for responding.

Regarding keyboard shortcuts, previously mentioned, yes, I did try them.

With respect to np32dsw. Before renaming and downloading. I went to the Director file and checked the version that is current installed. It is 11.6.3.633. However, in IE I see only Flash.

Do you still recommend the renaming and re-download?

The editor is a complex issue. I have not downloaded it, but have been told that the same problem occurs (no copying/pasting  using the Windows clipboard) weather it is downloaded or used on-line.

Best wishes

UPDATE

I have just scanned np32dsw.dll with two anti-virus programmes. They found no contamination.

In the same location i.e. C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Director, can you see a file called SwDir.dll? That's the Shocklwave Flash player for IE. If it's there, right click it, go to Properties, then click the Version tab. It should show as 11.6.3.633

If you can't see it, then open IE and go to the same site to download it: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ The only difference here is that you should choose "Run" when you see the prompt, not Save.

UPDATE

I should mention that IE requires the ActiveX control to be installed which is why downloading Flash & Shockwave players won't work if you just download them with any other browser.

Hi,

I was  juswondering why Shockwave 11.6.3.633 does not register in IE add-ons?

I tried: 'aviarys' editor that you mentioned. I found the same problem here that I found with a previous editor. If I create an image, select it, and then copy, it does not appear on the Windows clipboard!

I'll try your other suggestions.

Best wishes.

I think you're getting confused with the way Microsoft displays the version. It's listed as 11.6.3 in Manage Add-ons, but if you right click it and go to "More Information", you'll see the name of the file (SwDir.dll) and the path to it. You've already ascertained that you have the latest version installed, but for future reference, do the same as before i.e. right click SwDir.dll, go to Properties and then click the Version tab.

ie_shockwave.PNG

When you say after copying an image, it fails to appear in the Windows Clipboard, how are you checking that exactly? Have you tried selecting it and then hitting CTRL+C to copy, then CTRL+V to paste?

Hi,

I have a Windows clipboard viewer installed. Images copied with the graphics editor do not appear in this viewer. Under normal circumstances, images copied always appear.

Best wishes.

I have just checked IE add-ons.

'11.6.3 in Manage Add-ons' is not listed.

Open IE and go to this site: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/

What happens?

Also, what's the name of the clipboard viewer you're using?

Hi,

On going to the site, I find that I have Flash version 11,1,102,55 installed.

Regarding Macromedia Authorware, the pc wants to perfom an installation - Authorware Web Player 7. I have left this at this stage for the time being.

The clipboard is the utility that is used with XP. It is Clipboard Viewer. It does work well under vista.

Best wishes

Do you have a folder called Shockwave 11 at this location: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11 ?  If so, run the file called uninstaller.exe which you'll find in there and then go to http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ and choose Run when you see the prompt to install it.

As regards the Authorware Web Player 7 player, it's not free, so presumably you purchased a licence and the installation is an update or something: http://www.adobe.com/products/authorware/?promoid=DINSH

Hi,

Thanks for responding.

Yes, I have the folder Shockwave 11. I have run the uninstaller, then applied Run from the Adobe website. Shockwave is now in IE Plugins. When I logout, I hope Shockwave remains in IE Plugins.

As a matter of interest, I assumed that you believe that Shockwave had become corrupted. If you are right, what difference will I now notice?

Regarding Authorware Web Player 7. As far as I know, I do not have a licence, unless it came with the pc. In any event, I'll leave it. Presumably, if I don't have a licence then the installer would prompt for information.

Best wishes.

As I recall, you were unable to install 11.6.3.633 and was stuck at 11.6.3.629. So effectively, your system is no longer vulnerable to the exploit described in this security advisory: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-27.html

I just attempted to play one of the games on the Welcome page for Shockwave. I subsequently got popup requesting permission to install additional components which I denied. However, the installation proceeded regardless and only stopped when the option to Install Norton appeared. That gave me time to open Task Manager and kill the process. But maybe that's the reason you're seeing the attempt to install it.

Hi,

On logging in and checking IE Plugins, the only reference I see is: Shockwave Flash Object 11.1.102.55.

I suppose that this is all I am supposed to see in IE!

Best wishes
