I had downloaded 11.4.402.287 not long ago, I was still getting gray box w/frowney guy for me to 'send crash report' then 'reload page'. But the last few days it has been crashing many many times, not only in YouTube but any video links from home page or other sites as well. In fact just this morning I had to (for the 2nd time this week) actually pull the plug on my comp to shut it down. I have the latest version of Firefox. etc. So I'm a little confused & a lot irratated here.

TY for replying....and before we get any deeper here, know that I am somewhat technically illiterate so please be gentle & specific-lol. That said, where exactly do I find if I'm in 'safe mode' & I have NO idea what a 'gpu driver' is-sorry, but I warned you.

Hi Jeromie!
inthe meantime I can tell you that I use FF with flash acceleration on and sandbox OFF.
I stressed FF very much!!! a lot of YT tabs.
for many days!
zero crash, zero problems with xul on exit!
as you said, the biggest issues occur with sandbox on.

What are the new files VCH installed by flash 11.5??
the first issue:
right clic on a video to get the info (version number or the tab with the acceleration option...)
the video stops itself , the audio does continue running.
when you exit the drop down menù (right clic) the video works again!

Video does stop rendering on some platforms and browsers when the right-click context menu is displayed. That's expected behavior.

Thanks Jeromie for your reply.
Now I re-enable the sandbox, to see if there are issues with xul.exe on ff exit after installing 11.5.
I will try leaving ff opened a lot of time ![]()

>You're seeing this page because the crash report you selected was held back from submission. For statistical purposes, we don't need every crash report and sometimes we decline the submission of a crash report as a form of throttling. If you'd like to see your crash report, type about:crashes into your location bar and your report will be automatically submitted to our server where we'll give it priority processing.
I dont understand why until flash 11.3 I have had ZERO crashes. sandbox ON!
Now every day.

If you get the Firefox throttling message, you can go back to about:crashes and click the link again to force-submit it (right-click and open in a new tab *won't* work).
I'm not seeing anything useful, unfortunately. One of those is a crash in the Firefox crash reporter, and the other is the generic, intermittent hang that we see for a bunch of unrelated issues.
I'm chasing another issue related to multi-bitrate streaming in Firefox. Youtube and a lot of other premium video sites adapt the video stream to your real-time network conditions. If the connection degrades, they switch you to a lower-bitrate stream until the connection improves enough to switch you back. What I think is happening there is that we're not allowing some of the legitimate IPC (inter-process communication) messages related to that functionality to pass through our sandbox. It's hard to know if the problems are related for sure, but the pattern is similar.
If that's what is happening, watching the lower bitrate streams 240/360p on YouTube should keep you in a bitrate range where the multi-bitrate logic won't kick in. It would be an interesting experiment.
I already have a bug open on the MBR issue for Flash Player 11.6 with my team, and we have a number of other stability fixes queued up. Once the beta becomes available (we're a couple weeks out right now), it may improve stability for you.
In the meantime, I'd recommend either switching to a different browser or disabling sandboxing temporarily.

Hi Jeromie, thank you for your reply and explanation.
here all the links I got: (the good: xul.exe is not involved!! I guess, due to the build 11.5. thanks. 😉

hmmm doubt: if I set 1080p, I have 1080p, If the connection becomes bad, I wait the buffering, but thet dont changes the video resolution.
this happens on Silverlight > smooth streaming I guess.
I use the expanded window for YT videos:
the default is 480p.
also the crash occurred either in opening a new tab or after leaving the tab YT opened for long time. I return to my pc and i see the grey windows (flash crashed, or...I am not aware about the crash just happened because I just opened a new YT tab, and at evening I see the crash report not empty! 😉 )
also I dont remember when I have had a flash crash **BY watching the video**.
either at opening, or leaving the video opened "forgetting it" 😉
what you say maybe true: I go away leaving the video buffering!!
but I become a crash even if the video is already buffered, left so for 2 hours.
ok, I will try to slow down manually the resolution to 240p! leaving the video open, looking for the crash.
ok, in the meantime as you suggested: sandbox OFF, or switch to IE9 (no problems here with activeX).
at the moment the "regular" issues with xul.exe seem resolved (even with sandbox and acceleration ON) and I am very grateful to you.
On the 20th we will have FF17, with a better crash report, I hope, I hope (every time the "useful" report release, generated by FF, is postponed....now they -Mozilla- say "FF19 will do this helpful report"...then FF39, FF45...and... in the meantime we become old!
![]()
...because the bad is NOT the crash itself, nor the time for sending/re-sending it or for writing in the forum at night like now, but the fact that the reports are unuseful ![]()
thanks a lot again.

Hi schützenkönig (Is there a first name I can call you by?)
I was just about to try re-enabling protected mode, since I downloaded FF 17.0 last week and haven't tested it yet with FP 11,5,502,110. From what you've reported, there's no point. In fact, it confirms what I read on the Mozilla help forum -- http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/942300 (Contrary to what the poster believes, hacking the mms.cfg file is no big deal. If I can do it, ANYONE can without fear of blowing up his computer.)
Along this line, I posted a comment--just before the introduction of FF 17.0--concerning a problem someone was having with a build up of FF minidump files -- SEE -- http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2612567&p=12478283 That proves to me that the problem is NOT restricted to the people who have made it to this forum. I'd venture a guess that there are probably a cumlulative total of about 6,000,000,000+ such minidump files in existance on computers spread out throughout the world. This based on an estimated undetected 500 minidump crash reports per each of the 270,000,000 Firefox users throughout the world. That figure is based on Firefox's estimated 30 percent global market share, according to 2010 statistics published by Mozilla. (You can Google it!)
The problem is, only about 12 people seem to know about those hidden crash files, or even the XUL crashes!!!
Frustrato!!!

Hi David!
(fill free to call me with my nick, or shortened schuetzen
it is no name but a position, a "rank"
).
congratulations for your post. I agree 100% with all that you wrote here in this forum and here
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2612567&p=12478283
a very perfect analysis!
I am sure that this will help the developers, I hope that they will read your post.
Today I "discovered" the minidump folder in my profile: 100 files (someone with 0KB, some others with 40KB) since 5 september until yesterday.
I confirm that disabling the sandbox all is ok.
I re-enabled it after installing flash 11.5.
Xul crash. I agree with you again. A lot of people have this "silent" (?) crash: the about:crash folder remais empty but I become a message from Windows, otherwise I were unable to know that this crash happens.
yes, flash sandbox in Chrome: no problems, or better LESS problems than in firefox.
here what I add toypur post:
about crashes (in the folder, not only in minidump, also real crash + xul):
no problems if I open A LOT of YT tabs, stressing FF, but I become the crash with ONE tab only...if I LEAVE it OPEN for HOURS!!! this may be of some interest.
in fact xul crash happens when Iclose FF...after 16 hours.
If I close it after one hor, no crash.
I think that your post with your analysis is very important!! thanks a lot!
Even your friend schuetzen starts to be Frustrato as you
David, since you did a wonderful analysis, may you want to open a new bug in Bugzilla.mozilla.org? I am unable to write as you or better than you did, therefore it were super if you file a bug related to xul.exe in bugzilla. I were less able to explain all these issue. thanks. because if you wirte in the forum Mozillazine only, this has "no effects", also you speech with other users but the developers ingore your(our problems, they will take on woking only if you write (better than I do hehe) on Bugzilla. ![]()

For what it's worth, Firefox Nightly generates the improved crash logs, and submits 100% of the crashes to Mozilla for analysis. I think Aurora does as well, but I'd have to test it to be 100% sure.
