Firefox reembeds flash on certain DOM changes

I have noticed the following behavior from Firefox (last tested on FF 3.6.9 on 32-bit Windows Vista with WIN 10,1,102,64 Debug player, but I've also seen this before): Let's say I have a flash embed inside of a <div> in the page. If I make certain layout-affecting style changes to the div, FF will reembed the flash. By that I mean that the flash will be restarted. The easiest way to reproduce this is to change the position css attribute of the enclosing div, e.g., from 'static' to 'absolute' (or to 'fixed', etc.). This is not the only way to effect this behavior however, it is also possible for example to change the 'float' property of the enclosing div.

I made a demo page for the issue here . Clicking on the link changes the 'position' parameter in the div enclosing a simple flash embed which displays a timer. Notice that only in Firefox does the timer reset after the link is clicked.

I would be grateful for any pointers to discussions of this issue. Thank you!!!

Ok, I found it. An ancient FF bug (dating back to 2001): https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90268 . Has some workaround suggestions in it!

Hi, I'm glad you found your own solution:-) However, I don't know what Adobe Program you are using, Flash/Builder/Flex, etc.

But I'm sure that one of those Forums would appreciate your information if you were to post there. If one person is having a problem, then you can be sure others are also:-)

Here at the Flash Player Forum, we only troublshoot Flash Player issues so wouldn't have been much help to you. At least I couldn't.

Thanks,

eidnolb

This is a problem with Firefox and the Flash Player. Not sure what Flash/Flex/Builder question has to do with it...
