Flash installer for Linux .tar.gz

New Here ,
Dec 21, 2009 Dec 21, 2009

Hi,

I've downloaded the file install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz from the flash download page. The instructions say:

  • Click the download link to begin installation. A dialog box will appear                       asking you where to save the file.
  • Save the .tar.gz file to your desktop and wait for the file to download                       completely.
  • Unpackage the file. A directory called install_flash_player_10_linux will be created.
  • In terminal, navigate to this directory and type ./flashplayer-installer                       to run the installer. Click Enter. The installer will instruct                       you to shut down your browser(s).

  • However the .tar.gz file only contains a file called libflashplayer.so, no flashplayer-installer script to run. Have I gotten the right file?

  • Thanks in advance,

  • 4.4K

I think moving that file to the plugins directory is sufficient.

In my case it is /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

    Hi tjoen,

Thanks for the reply, I gave that a try, but doesn't seem to work on youtube.

    Any other suggestions?

I remember that on previous downloads and installations, the install-flashplayer.tar.gz file did contain flashplayer-install script and running it successfully installed. But that script no longer exists in the tgz file, and I can't find and old copy that has the installation script.

    Thanks,

    Restarted Firefox?

    Flash-plugin enabled?

    Other websites with flash working?

What do you see on youtube?

    - black YouTube screen? or

    - no screen at al?

I also have flash not working at all, my guess is flash-plugin

compiled and linked with libraries older than mine.

I restarted firefox, but how does one enable the flash-plugin?

Thanks for your help in the matter!

    Merry Christmas,

    Menu item Tools -- Add-ons

Select plugins -- select Shockwave Flash 10.0 r42

Click on Enable if it is not enabled

Disable Gnash if it is installed and enabled
