Hi there. I have been reading the posts about GUI. To bad Adobe does not have any support for there products.
Anyway I have Vista, and a newer machine. I am also not a computer tech. On an online server called STEAM they said I need to download a DIFFERENT flash player that's newer. I have the newest version today downloaded the way it was stated on other discussions. I first cleaned my computer of older versions and then rebooted. I then downloaded the newest to my desk top. Then I downloaded it and rebooted it again. I went to the flash page and all is working. Then I go back onto STEAM and it says again you need the newest different flash player to view pages. I go to the recommended Adobe page and download it and it says "Unable to download GUI. Any help here. Why does Adobe not just make the software Correctly so people don't have to go through all this? Thanks Forum.

Hi W, well it could be a couple of things. I need a little more info from you first. What service pack on your Vista? Is your OS a 32bit or 64bit system?
What version of IE are you using? Are you using any other browsers?
Take a look in Add/Remove or Programs and Features and see if there is a listing of a DLM(download manager) and or a getplus?
Also using IE, go to All add ons and see if the add on get_atlcom Class is there.
This info will give me a better idea of what is going on.
Thanks,
eidnolb

Service pack-2
64bit operating system
i7 860 2.80GHZ
windows vista home premium
Version of IE I don't know but it is the newest version I downloaded about 2 months ago.
No other browser that I know about. You mean like Firefox? No.
In Add and Remove there is no "Get Plus" or "DLM download MGR".
I do have Adobe air.
Adobe Flash Player 10 active X ( i downloaded that yesterday)
Adobe Reader9.3.2
Adobe shockwave player 11.5
In Add ons-I don't have "get_atlcom class"
I do have Adobe Shockwave flash object and Adobe PDF link helper.
Looking in Internet properties-Programs it says IE is the default web browser and below that it says IE 64 bit cannot be the default browser.
I get confused with 64 bit and 32 bit on this or that. But I am sure IE is 32 bit because nothing in 64 bit works on IE. Thanks, Ahead WANARAZ

Hi w, well looks like you did your homework:-) Thanks. Let's take a look at your Flash files after all of the Uninstalling/Installing. Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash Right click on the Flash folder and post back all files listed there with version numbers when listed.
Even tho you have a 64bit Operating System, the 32bit browser is the default, which for Installing Flash Player and viewing Flash content is needed. Adobe Flash Player is not supported yet using the 64bit browser.
Thanks for checking on the DLM/getplus/get_atlcom Class items. I am a little surprised that they are not lurking somewhere:-) Adobe uses the DLM for Air, Reader and Flash Player. Still it may not hurt to go to C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files to see if any are listed there, or a NOS as well.
Thanks,
eidnolb

When I go into Steam here is what it first says to vue pages of adds .
"You need to have a specific Flash Player installed to view video content in Steam. Please follow these directions to get the right version for Steam.
You will need this Flash player even if you already have the latest player for your default web browser."
I follow the directions and it says "UNABLE TO LOAD GUI".
What is a GUI and why don't ODOBE have the GUI? Usually when I purchase or install ANY Free or paid for software ,shareware they take care of all the installs that your computer could need. It seems if some one is brilliant enough to program software they should take care of the small stuff for all us not so computer literate's.Anyway that's where I am. Thanks, WANARAZ

I don't know what "Steam" is, nor what "these directions" are - can you enlighten us?

Steam is an ONLINE game Server. Probably the biggest on the internet or at least the most well
known. To view add pages in color or moving it requests a new and different flash player. When I try to download it from Adobe it says "UNABLE to LOAD GUI".

Hi, What site did they refer you to? If you don't know what "this Flash Player" is, then I would contact them and ask them.
You need to know what they are talking about. Is "this Flash Player" that they say you need, from Adobe?
Sounds strange to me. Another user had Steam and had problems with it. I don't use it but have known a few that do.

Yes they give you a Hyper link and you go directly to ADOBE.
Steam is a big corp. They would not send you to anything that was not legit .
So it is Adobe for sure.

Hi w, thanks, glad you found it. The Flash files are all correct. Now the Shockwave Flash Object that you said is in the add ons as long as it is Flash10e.ocx which is version 10.0.45.2 and Enabled. Then you have all that is needed for FP in IE.
I'm going to take a look at your next post.
Thanks,

You need to have the latest version of Flash player installed to view video content in Steam. Please follow these directions to get the right version for Steam.
You will need this Flash player even if you already have the latest player for your default internet browser
Once on that page, select your operating system from the drop-down and hit the large yellow 'continue' button.

Hi, well from what I can see on the screenshots & info, they want Flash Player Installed on "another" browser. Is that what you get from that? Firefox, Chrome, etc.
I don't know if they specified Firefox, the URL is to "other versions" So it seems for some reason IE is not preferred or not supported?
Your thots?

They ask you to check a box for IE which I did. They have another box for other browsers but I leave that one blank.

Ok, then using IE with version 10.0.45.2 Flash Player is fine on the Steam site. You had a problem with the GUI error, but now that you have Flash Player Installed correctly you don't? Or are you trying to Install Flash Player in another browser and getting the GUI error?
I can understand getting that error when trying to Install, but are you getting it now?
It is not clear now what the issue is, please clarify. Also use FP or Steam, I'm not sure who "they" are:-)
Thanks,
eidnolb

No the flash player does not work on the STEAM site. Read back to my post number 7.
That's the exact in fact copied message that pops up as soon as I hit on the add. Thanks, WANARAZ

Hi, ok that getplus is part of the DLM/getplus/NOS. You said these were not listed in Add/Remove or Programs & Features via Control Panel. Are they now?
If it is not in the Program Files, then do a Search for all files & folders and Search for "getplus" and see what you find and the location. If you find a gp.ocx and or gp.inf, Remove/Delete them and Reboot.
Let me know.

Hi wa, Here would be my suggestion. Sometimes glitches happen. I would suggest to Uninstall Flash Player by downloading the Uninstaller to the Desktop. Then downloading the Flash Player Installer for IE to the Desktop as well.
Here is the Uninstaller :
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Here is the Installer:
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe
After you have those on your Desktop, Close all browsers, disable any applications that use Flash (check system tray)
Run the Uninstaller and Reboot. Since you are using IE, Reboot again. Then Run the Installer and Reboot Once.
Then check your Flash folder and the Shockwave Flash Object in add ons as you did before & make sure it is Enabled.
Check Steam.
Any questions, just post.
Thanks,
eidnolb
