Laptop Specs:
Windows 7 64-bit
Lenovo Thinkpad T410
Intel Core i5 CPU m 520 @2.4 GHz
8.00 GB RAM
This started happening a couple months back (September ish). My laptop run perfectly fine with game play, watching HD movies, running photoshop, etc. It's only when I start up Google Chrome that the CPU usage would spike. It remains under 80% though. With normal internet surfing my CPU usage will teader around 30-40%. When I watch videos via chrome, that's when I have problems. For example, when I watch a "Walking Dead" episode from AMC.com, my CPU usage will spike to 90-100%. After a minute or two my computer will do a hard shut down, as if I pulled the battery out. I'm guessing it is because my CPU is being overworked and over heated. I thought this problem was only with Chrome but when I pulled up the video with internet explorer the same thing happened. I've cleaned my CPU & fan and bought a laptop cooling fan, no help. I've disabled the multiple flash plugins on chrome, no help. I've updated chrome and flash, no help. What should I do? I've read online that this is a common issue. Has there been a solution yet?

Chrome uses a proprietary plugin, modified and embedded by Google. It's called PepperFlash, and it can't be updated or reinstalled from here.
Here are some steps that have helped work around this problem for some users.
1. Exit chrome, make sure it is not running
2. Using Windows explorer go to C:\users\[user name]\AppData\local\Google\Chrome\User data\Pepperflash
3. Delete the folders you see there
4. Start chrome again, it should work better now.
Notes:
[user name] is your logon name.
In order to access the AppData folder, you need to "Show Hidden Files and Folders" in your Folder Options.

I did all that and nothing. Still does a hard reset. I don't think it's a problem with chrome because it happens when I view the same videos on internet explorer. I pretty sure it has to do something with flash and the site.

I am also having kind of similar problem. My laptop configuration is Sony Vaio, i7 Dual Core, 8GB, 512mb graphics card. I have seen similar issue when I run vlc, so I suspected that it could be due to recent graphics drive update, so I have downgraded it today. Will watch it for next couple of days and let you guys know, if it helps to you.

Same problem here:
- x86 Family 15 Model 6 Stepping 5 GenuineIntel ~3000 Mhz.
- Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family/128MB
- 4gb RAM
- Windows XP
The problem is obvious on pages with Flash ads, YouTube (auto resolution), etc. I have the same problem with IE 8; I am guessing, it is not related to the browser.
Ordinary pages with Flash ads keep the CPU at 15%, at least, when not visible; when visible it oscillates from 15% to 90%.
In YouTube the CPU goes to 80% when the video is visible and decreases to 20% when not visible, but it spikes to 30%.
My other, I7, computer has no problem.
Adobe, I hope you will come with a solution. An algorithm should not rely on computer's power.
