Flash Upgrade

On june 3rd I went to www.golfchannel.com and there was a message on their main page to upgrade Flash...that is when the problems started. Now after a week and many hours of uninstalling, installing and reading forums...I still cannot get any Flash to work on IE 8, like I have done for as many years as this has been available. Now, I downloaded FireFox and downloaded Flash, which was not without problems to do, but is now working, but I hate FireFox for other reasons.

I am very disappointed with Adobe wanting to charge me $39 for something that is their fault, not mine and suppose to be a free program....think about it...Flash was working for years and without me doing anything to my computer, it stopped...then when trying to upgrade, their system fails to properly download with IE. And I noticed there are many forum topics pertaining to Flash Upgrade problems...guess if a million frustrated users pay the $39, someone will get very rich for a problem they cannot provide easy directions to resolve.

I get an error saying IE was unable to dowload from either an Adobe.com or Macromedia.com web site. Yes, I have followed the proper steps, several times to uninstall and install...without even it saying there is a problem...just a page that opens saying if this happens do this or that, which never happens, and then it says to try manually and etc.

First time using Adobe site and not impressed.

Yes, frustrated, but will appreciate and follow steps and verifications suggested by those that are assured they can find and fix problem. Thanks.

Now, I don't want to get this incorrect, but thought that you were either a

blond IE or blondie.

So be the polishing of nails. I am taking break...went and had Neuro tests

on right hand Monday...need carpal tunnel surgery...guess I could blame that

on Adobe, ha.

Together, with your help/direction and my persistence...the problem will be

Hi AC, We'll clear up the Golf Channel first. Some websites haven't updated to the latest version of Flash Player. Glad you didn't go back to version 9. You would have very few sites supporting version 9. I think when they update, you should be ok.

So you found Shockwave Flash Object by going to Tools and manage add ons. You mean the place that someone told you to go in Post#6?:-)

Ok on the FF SWF add on, correct.

What I meant was vs 10 was always shown in Add/Remove and we knew it was not 9, etc. I haven't updated to 10.1 yet, so have no way of checking on how the 10.1 is listed there. I thot it would be listed as 10.1. I use XP also. The real test however is the Flash files.

To locate your Flash files, Go to C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash.  Open Flash and post back all of the files listed there.

What I think happened is that after you Uninstalled/Installed the last time, we forgot to check the Shockwave Flash Object again.

Now if you have the correct Flash files and now have the SWO Enabled(again) then you will have Flash Player Installed correctly in IE!

Let me know. 

Did the Dr. ask you if you spent too much time Chasing Adobe?

Hi AC, I looked over your Flash files, if you have a Install.log, then it is perfect!!

Let me know, as that is the only thing that I don't see there. Probably just an oversight.

My email system was compromised for over three days...just getting back on

line...so, maybe during the next week we can delve back in the pursuit of

Flash happiness.

Hi AC, sorry to hear about your email issues, difficult to chase Adobe that way:-) Hope it is back working correctly. Mine acts up too and sometimes puts my forum notifications in the junk mail. I use Hotmail and they are going "Live" everything.

Flash happiness? LOL, sure why not? Trying to imagine what mischief you have gotten into, since all was perfect in your Flash world not too long ago  Seriously, I'm sure we can solve it. I'm getting a laptop so I can network since Adobe related folders have taken over my Desktop and I'm running out of space:-)

Hi,

Just checking in...yes, it was gmail disabling due to some presumed

violations, but actually we traced it to system being compromised on Wed and

possibly a complaint letter from political group. Google decided to

re-instate...took a lot of info and details back to 2005. Whew!

I also use Hotmail, Yahoo, several others and two of my own web sites. Just

in case.

Was on HP today looking at lap top sales...customized up to $2,000, but now

want them to give me the 50% they are promoting; I know, lots of luck.

I am still only using Fire Fox because my IE will not allow flash to work;

even though it appears to be on computer and says that it downloads

properly. I did on several occasions over the past week, go through the

removal, delete and clean up of flash on computer and started over following

all the proper directions provided from Adobe and you combined. Just

something goofy going on. But appreciate your time and hope to get more

involved in next few days.

Hi, that experience would be upsetting to say the least on the email issue. I'm fairly up to date on Google:-)

You must have been having some problems to have to clear the deck on Flash Player. By the way if you have the Firefox vs 3.6.4 that has been conflicting, there is a new Firefox browser update 3.6.6 and you can read about the whys and wherefores here:

That HP sounds nice. If the 50% is their promotion, then I don't see why they wouldn't. From what I have been reading there are a lot of discounts in the market right now from various manufacturers. My Dtr has a beautiful Gateway with a 24" Monitor (Desktop) and she is all wireless. Cable/PC/Modem/Printer with AT&T Uverse. She can program up to 4 Cable shows right from her PC. It's not in my area yet, but when it is, I'll go there too.

The NPSWF files, will need a right click and then click on Properties to obtain the version numbers.* 10.0.45.2.

Using IE, go to Tools, manage add ons (all add ons) and find Shockwave Flash Object..ActiveX Control..and make sure it is Enabled. Only Shockwave Flash Object is listed in my IE add-ons. It's all that's listed under Adobe Co. Also let me know what is listed after Flash10?.ocx. What is in place of the question mark?  In WE, as seen above, "h".  

Using FF, look in the plug-ins for SWF and make sure it is Enabled. Also what version number is listed after the SWF?

10.0.45.2-FlashPlayer works fine in FF for me.

I have similar frustrations, though, as stated in the following which I copied from an earlier reply posting to a post from October of '08 (which I now figure no one looks @ being the original was 2 years ago), I can['t even get the Flash Player to download in IE8.

I don't know about the person who originally posted the request, but here are my

specifics in not being able to download the Flash Player update.

-running WIN XP

-encounter this only with IE8/runs fine with FireFox

-as per what the Adobe Flash Player Update site states, the security warning "Website wants to install "Adobe DLM"..." popped up. Only if I immediately click on the acceptance button will anything happen other than locking up of IE.

-what happens is the Notify Microsoft notice  reading, "DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered...' appears, then when clicked upon shall IE freeze up.

What am I looking to be 32- or 64-bit, & where would I locate the info?

I have similar problem, but don't get any pop ups to other steps for

acceptance.

Also have similar system...and here is link where it explains how to see if

32 or 64.

Obviously, it should be 32 like mine.

Thanx! I'll check that out later. -About to call it day here. Meanwhile, I did a little sleuthing after my initial message and found a non-MS-related site that speaks to some of this. Tried out a suggestion on it, whcih was to go into TOOLS in IE & Disable the add-ons. So far, after system re-boot, the Flash Player update was suddenly available 'on its own'. Haven't checked out YouTube, whcih was what took me down this path initially, but even the entire system is running much faster. Thinking I'll coast without those pesky add-ons as long as I can. Wish you the best.
