For those following along, we were able to determine that Flash Player 11.8 was crashing on Hugo's system as soon as it was being initialized. I've taken one of the crash logs and a few of the crash report ID's from Firefox and we'll continue to investigate internally. We were able to work around this by uninstalling 11.8 and installing the latest 11.7 release. While this won't work with Safari (it has the "older" plugin blacklisted), it does work for FIrefox and the other applications that were needed.

Good to know, Chris. So, will Adobe have to make a fix for it, or Apple?

I think we're (Adobe) going to have to do something to fix the issue with 11.8. We'll also talk with Apple about not black listing our latest 11.7 plugin but they'll need to decide if they will make that change on Safari.
If you see anyone else running into major problems like this with OS X and 11.8 please have them shoot me an email or give me a shout on the forums and I'll do what I can to help. It'll also help to know how widespread this issue is. I suspect there's something conflicting on the system but it's hard to tell what. Maybe as we get more data from different machines we'll be able to figure this out.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks to Chris for all his help. Got me back up and running with the 10.7 release of Flash. Now I can get back to work!

This was a "tough nut to crack", and I learned something about Safari (the lockout of older versions of plugins). Things to keep in mental notes for future fixes.

I had this problem when 11.8 was launched and I updated to it on my 10.6 OSX Mac, in early August. I immediately uninstalled the update and went back to 11.7 which kept both Firefox and Safari both playing flash content. I inadvertantly re-updated to 11.8 yesterday and had to do it all again, but this time Safari wouldn't play flash content on the 11.7 version. Obviously this is because of the blacklisting mentioned above.
A quick fix by Adobe for this would be helpful, as would an easier way of returning to a previous version if necessary.

Hi Chris,
I have the same issue - had to update to 11.8 because of Safari, now the plugin won't even work.

Anyone willing to a short desktop sharing session with me so I can grab debug information from your systems? I'd also be happy to help revert you to our 11.7 release though that will require you use an browser other than Safari.
If so, please email me at ccampbel@adobe.com with a time convenient for you and I'll do my best to fit this into my schedule.
Thanks,
Chris

I'm hoping to have a test build available shortly that fixes the issue with Flash Player not loading on OS X. Anyone interested in trying this out please shoot an email to ccampbel@adobe.com.
Thanks,
Chris

Have a look at this forum discussion... https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4762386?start=0&tstart=0
I used a variation on the main method shown here to change the minimum version number of flash player and also the date of the last update to a year in the future. Hopefully by then Adobe will have released a version of Flash Player that still works with Safari.
