flash10c.ocx deletion

New Here ,
Jan 19, 2010 Jan 19, 2010

I recently did a "clean" upgrade install to Windows 7 and have been trying to delete the windows.old folder.  Unfortunately, this contains a flash10c.ocx and flashutil.exe file that I cannot delete.  The uninstall tool does not work, it does not check the windows.old folder.  I have tried the uninstall tool, safe mode, moving the file, renaming the file, renaming the folder and deleting the parent folder, all of which have failed.  Is there any way to delete this file?  Why is this file so incredibly hard to remove?

This works for me.

Right-click on Flash10c.ocx and go to Properties>Security>Advanced

Then select and remove any/all type of permission that has Deny listed

Close properties

Now delete Flash10c.ocx

The issue is most likely due to the permissions on the file. Win 7 restricts ordinary users from changing many of the files found in "Windows" and "Program Files" directories. You can try to make yourself the owner of the file (recomended by microsoft forums), but I've not had sucess with that. I have ,however, been able to rename the target file. I still can't delete it but this makes it useless.

Unfortunately, permissions does not work to unlock the file for deletion.  I am still trying to figure this one out.  Anyone have any idea how a file is made to be this impervious?  Is there any way to delete the file without using there uninstall tool?

Aha!  This worked perfectly, thank you kindly!  I will now go and wonder why I did not notice the big glaring DENY listing in the special permissions area.

Nothing works to get rid of the flash10h.ocx file. Access is denied, and you can't change the attributes from " readonly" I even tried a move on boot program, it's still there. I called Adobe support and the dumb towel head their tried to tell me it is not an adobe file?? WTF Funny how the flash player created the flash folder and all the files in it, but it isn't theirs!!!! Adobe has the worst support I have ever seen with dumbest support people in the computer industry. I finally got rid of it by backing up all my data on the slave drive and formatting the drive! No wonder Adobe doesn't offer email support, with all their problems email support would probably crash their serviers!

Man!  Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater...

Download this file: TakeOwnership.zip

Unzip it, and double click the ".reg" file it contains.

Click Yes and OK when it runs.

You will now be able to take "root level ownership" of ANY file or folder on your hard drive with a right click.

I've run it on each C drive of six Windows machines I have and I can change, move or remove ANYTHING from ANY of them.

The only way I have found to get rid of it is back up the data and format the drive! Adobe really screwed up again, but what else is new!
