Flashplayer won't install on Windows XP running IE8

New Here ,
Dec 15, 2009 Dec 15, 2009

I have tried to download flashplayer and it fails.  I have followed the steps for trouble shooting on Adobe but no luck.  I have PC Defender (F-Secure) as my antivirus and firewall.  Any suggestions?

Thank you chipanna.  Don't forget to mark this as "Answered" as this helps other people with the same problem to find

your thread and get help also. So many people look for problems that are like theirs and if they see the "star with a check mark" they know someone else found an answer.

Thanks

Hi, Chippana.

Log in to the forum then go to one of eidnolb's posts on your thread. You should see at the bottom of the post an icon that says 'correct answer'. Click on that.

Alternatively, if you reply to her last post, just above (or below) the text box where you type your reply you should see an option for marking the thread as answered.

Hope that works!

EDIT: I just noticed that this thread was started by lilace3 so you may not be able to mark it as answered. It might have to be done by lilace3. Not sure if Eidnolb can do that for you. You might have to create a new thread.

This is for lilace3, Thanks for your information. Before we start, I would like for you to go to Tools>manage add ons,

and give me the complete listing of any Java, everything that is listed per line.

Also look in Add/Remove and tell me what of Adobe is listed, is there a DLM? Tell me what Java is listed also.

Thanks

Thanks Sollysolly for the help.

chipanna, don't worry about it, lilace3 will take care of it. Thanks.

Hi lilace3 Thanks for the info. We'll clean some of the old Java up after we get FP installed.

The first thing I'd like for you to do is go to Tools, Internet Explorer. Click on the Security Tab, The slider bar should be set to Medium, if it already is, just close out. If not move the slider until it is set and says Medium, say ok & close.

Then go to post #14 in your thread here(my instructions to chipanna) and follow those steps completely.

When you have completed everything there, then go to post #19 and follow the 1st paragraph only. Let me know each

entry that is listed there. Ignore the next paragraph about Flash9, that was for chipanna.

If you have any questions before you begin, let me know.

Thanks

This is for lilace3:  Just checking to see how you are doing, since I haven't heard from you since my last post.

Let me know if you haven't got FP working and where you are in the process.

Thanks

Hi lilace3, here I thought you had FP installed and was all done!! Sorry to hear that you are still having problems.

I just reviewed your information. You said you followed the uninstall instructions in post #14.  Did you remember to check the system tray( by the clock where icons for programs are) Some of these use Flash and cannot be running when you run the Uninstaller.

You have so many Toolbars and add ons. Did you remember that ALL of those had to be disabled before uninstalling?

And also when you tried to install?

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html  This is the link for the Uninstalling instructions. Perhaps if you reviewd it you may see something that was overlooked. It is a lot to do, so just check to make sure.

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html  This is the Adobe troubleshooting link. Review it also, take a look at the Security settings needed and item#5 Permissions needed. You have to have permission to install ActiveX Controls. Maybe you don't have it. This has to do with IE8.

lilace3, just review these articles and if you think anything was overlooked, let me know.

Thanks

First of all, I have no flash player installed on my computer. I checked

system tray and disabled exited all that were there. I double checked my

add-ons and all were disabled. I read the uninstall instructions and the

adobe troubleshooting page and then followed all instructions in post#14

and ran the uninstall program. I then checked that everything was turned

off or exited prior to running the install. Failed to Install message

again!!!

Hi lilace3, How awful for you. Do this simply test. Go to where your clock is at the bottom, right click on the time, when the window opens up, left click on the Adjust Date & Time.  Post back and tell me what you see.

Thanks

I see a callender with the 3rd highlighted the month January and the year

2010. The box that opens up has three tabs: Date & Time, Time Zone,

Internet Time. At the bottom, Current time Zone, Eastern Standard.

Ok lilace3 that is exactly what you should see; this means you are the Administrator. I will now check on a couple of other things. Actually that is what I was doing for your issues when I saw your post come in. It will be at least 30 min to an hour before I can get back to you.

Thanks

Hi lilace3, It appears that we have done all we can do from here. Microsoft has a toll free number that anyone can call about IE8. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/support/call-us.aspx

Also this is the link for Adobe support:  http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/

I hope you can get it solved.

Regards,

eidnolb

For jannpann, it would be more helpful if you could open a thread in your name. And list your operating system and what browser you are using. Also a brief description of what problem you are having.

Thank you.
