Running XP-SP3, Fox 48.0.2, & FP 30.0.0.113
Receive below err (Top shown) every 15-20 mins no matter what is or isn't running.
Also receive this when attempting to access Flash Ctrl Panel applett.
(This was done in an effort to modify update prefs.)
I have also disabled flash in both IE & Fox (my default) as well as elsewhere. (including some cmd line options.)
The "Adobe Flash Player Update Service" has been set to 'Disabled' in Services.
Anything touched relating to Flash continues to generate one of the 2 above or the below vague err msgs.

If reinstalling or attempting to uninstall using Add/Remove Prgms or the Official Flash 'Uninstall.exe' download from Adobe's site you get the following err...
Every fix for this out on the net I've encountered involves running an uninstall, reinstalling, or changing settings in the Ctrl panel applett, none of which am I able to do. Don't have much hair left to pull out so hopefully someone has an idea on this. ~Thx!

Yes, Thx but been all over that doc & many others pertaining to this
issue. Also, c|net, tech-net, etc. My issue is not one of
installation/uninstallation persay, but stems from this err "ADOBE FP
'UPDATE SVC' 30.0 r0 HAS ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM & NEEDS TO CLOSE."
which I get every 30 mins or less even though the Flash Update Svc is
disabled, it's disabled in both browsers on my PC, & nothing I chk
seems to be wrong. I have to clear off 30+ instances of err each day
then continue to get them throughout the day. It's true I get a
similar err when inst/uninst, also when I try to access FP Ctrl Panel
applett. ANYTHING I TOUCH RELATED TO FLASH GENERATES ONE OF THE 3 ERRS
IN MY FORUM DOC.

That process writes to the installer log. My hope was that it would log something useful; however, I'm pretty sure that we're trying to access something on the disk, and it's failing in a way that's weird enough that we don't handle it and crash. To put that in perspective, this installer gets delivered to a couple billion machines on a monthly basis. A 0.01% failure rate is still on the order of 100,000. A failure rate of 1 is closer to 0.0000001%, and is indicative of a local problem.
My guess is that we're checking a file, and that file is corrupt or otherwise inaccessible, and it's a weird enough error coming back that we're not handling it, which leads to the crash.
I think this is just the auto-updater trying to check to see if you have the latest Flash Player installed, and I think that it only does it once a day, so it's probably just trying to read the config file to see when it last checked, and it's blowing up.
I'd start by scanning for and repairing any problems with the filesystem (caveat: if your disk is wonky, make sure you have working backups of any critical data before you start doing maintenance).

I'm guessing you'll encounter some errors, which you can then repair. At that point, uninstall Flash Player.
If that doesn't work, I'm kind of stumped. Especially since you disabled the service. Have you rebooted since changing the configuration in services? It shouldn't start back up after reboot. If it does, I'm kind of wondering if it's really our process, or something pretending to be our update process...

Hi,
I tried to reproduce the issue, however, Flash Player seems to work fine on XP with 30.0.0.113 on Firefox.
Could you please try :
1. Sharing the logs
2. Rebooting the machine
3. Running a File Disk Cleaner
to come out of the state that your machine is stuck in.

Searched my entire drive for any file/folder with ‘Flash’ in the name. Also
looked for ‘FP.*’ & some other variations. Only log files that come up
are installation logs. Where (path) might I find the Flash logs you’re
requesting in XP? Have not had to do a lot of the Adobe troubleshooting in
the past, sorry for The hole in my knowledge. Have rebooted and run
system scan software which reported no problems. This is the last part of
the three things you requested I look at.

The file being requested is the FlashInstall log file. There's a link at the bottom of the FAQ to another FAQ with instructions to upload the file(s) to cloud.acrobat.com/send

I have updoaded the 'FlashInstall32.log' file to the following
location on the 'PDF Services' page you sent me the link for.

I have also attached to this message as well.
Found this early on but since all was well post Flash install for
quite some time I didn't think it was an install log you were looking
for. I was looking for something that would have been tracking more
current actions since Flash operated perfectly on my PC until
recently. -FYI
