Help with uninstalling Adobe Flash Player

Guest

I am using MacOS Sierra, Version 10.12.1

Safari Browser, Version 10.0.1

I have been having difficulty with display of AARP games (I guess I am officially an old person!) and with not being able to load Pandora One. I followed the suggestion in Adobe Support to uninstall Flash Player, and reinstall.

After uninstalling was complete, I am stuck on the directions:

Delete the following directories:

<home directory>/Library/Preferences/Macromedia/Flash\Player

<home directory>/Library/Caches/Adobe/Flash\Player

I looked on the MacIntosh Hard Drive under 'Library', but was unable to locate either. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

Can someone help me?

It's the users home directory. Can be reached using ~/library

Hi,

Apple hides the Library (System and User's) folder by default.  See Access hidden Mac OS library files  to view the hidden Library folder.  There are 2 Library folders: /Library is the System Library folder, ~/Library will be the logged in User's Library folder.  For the log files you want the currently logged in User's Library folder.

That said, you shouldn't really have to manually delete files in the bowels of the operating system, unless there's some extraordinary circumstance, which would typically indicate a corrupted filesystem or failing hard disk. While the approach cited is certainly thorough, it seems like overkill, and there are easier ways to get a similar effect.

If you want to make sure that Flash Player's internal state is blown away, you can simply go to Settings > Flash Player > Advanced, and choose Delete All.

It's far more likely that the original issue wasn't a problem with the installation, but a problem with the ever-changing security restrictions imposed by Safari on Plug-ins (i.e. Flash Player).

Once you've reinstalled Flash Player from here:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

... take a look at this document, although I'm not sure that it's caught up with 10.12 yet:

Enable Adobe Flash Player for Safari

If that doesn't help and you're not using ad-blockers or anything like that, let us know and we'll provide some other suggestions.

Thanks!
