HELP! Youtube videos very choppy, low FPS in HQ mode

Guest
Sep 15, 2010 Sep 15, 2010

I have a problem that I need help with, seems like any video I try to  play on Youtube now in high quality is somewhat choppy. Usually I get a  10 FPS drop in high quality mode compared to 240p (240p I have no drops  in FPS I believe), yet this does not happen on the other computers I  have.

The current computer I use has windows 7 64 bit, ATI radeon 5850  graphics card, 8 GB of ram, and an i7 processor so it can't be due to  the fact that the technology is out of date. The other computers are Windows XP service pack 2 and my friend's computer also said that the videos I showed him that were choppy for me were fine for him. I believe he runs a Mac.

My flash is  updated to the most current setting too and this happens on every  browser I've tried on here, so I'm not sure what the problem is. I've  also downloaded one of my videos in mp4 format and it's still choppy  like on the site here. Is this a graphics card issue or a flash based  issue?

Hi, you may want to turn off the hardware acceleration feature and see if that helps. You can read the info on that here:

Nope that didn't help it unfortunately. I can still watch some videos without problems but videos like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2l0r4Br6OA I cannot watch in 360p without getting only like 20 FPS. It seems like every video I watch though studders at random times, even though if I watch the part of the video again it doesn't do that.

Hi, I watched part of the video. Is that what they call power bowling? LOL Now I have hardware acceleration ON. I saw the 360 below the video, but don't understand what it means. The video was clear and no choppiness, sound was fine. The only thing I noticed is that on each side of the video was a solid black margin. I didn't have it on full screen though.

My work Desktop is XP/SP3/IE6 (i know:-)

How do you measure "20 FPS?"

Have you tested here to see if you can see the animation?

when I right click on the video and click on "show video info" then it displays the FPS of the video. I can only get around 21 FPS max in 360p yet 240p works fine with 30+ fps like it should be. I've tested the video on my other 2 computers and both in 360p got 30 FPS too. So I have no clue why it's lagging on my new pc.

And I bowl a lot, yeah.

Hi, thanks for explaining that. I'd have to do some searching on what might be causing that. It's getting late for me, so I'm signing off.

I'm sure this has been discussed on the forum and perhaps tomorrow I'll have some time to search for either some info or a thread.

Thanks,

The weird thing is that the video worked fine for me a couple of weeks ago, but now it's choppy again. I have no clue why it's acting like this.

Hi, Yes that doesn't make too much sense. Was this after Installing the latest Flash Player 10.1.82.76? Do you recall Installing any other program around that time, or Uninstalling any. What about any updates or upgrades? Windows we know is always on their monthly Patch Tuesdays, 9/14 and 8/10. Now I recall 8/10 was Patch Tuesday and also the very day that Flash Player updated to their latest version. Perhaps a glitch occurred?

Let me know on that.

I've only had this computer since August 25th I believe, but I have updated windows since then. I updated on the 1st and I also updated yesterday. Yesterday's update didn't solve anything though, as the video was laggy before and after the update. Maybe it was from the update before?? The thing is though, about a week in a half ago my friend installed a new heatsink on my PC. Not sure if that affected anything, it made the CPU a lot cooler and made my system run faster. I have no idea what's going on.

Hi, thanks. If your computer did not come Installed with Flash Player, then you Installed  FP before yesterday's Patch Tuesday. Do you remember using the download manager when Installing? If so, do you have a get_atlcom Class or getplus or a DLM Control in your add ons?

Go to Tools, Manage add ons. This should open in Toolbars & Extensions. Look down to your left for "Show"(very light text). Use the drop down arrow and look in All Addons and or Run without Permissions.

Hmmm on the new heat sink. Was there some reason for that, since your system is new? Microsoft have a site for every conceivable hardware and software for Win7 and the 64bit system. The only way I know is a few months ago I was shopping for that OS and wondered about what was available. That MS site lists what is compatible or not.

Thanks,

I uninstalled the flash player yesterday and re-installed it and it still didn't do the trick and yes I did get the download manager. I do have a DLM control in my add ons, though I don't have get_atlcom Class and I do have getplus.

The heatsink was for my processor, I doubt that could've made a difference. The old heatsink I had would bring my CPU temperature near 100 C so I had to get it replaced. We didn't add any software or anything.

Thanks. Ok, go to Control Panel, Programs & Features and see if a DLM and or a getplus is listed. If either one is there, Remove it and then Reboot your Computer.

Then go back to you manage add ons and see if that DLM Control and the getplus add on was removed due to the above.

If not and if either one is still there, right click on remove them if you can, if not Disable them.

This DLM causes many problems. I'm not saying that this will solve your problems, but I do know from the many many threads that the DLM and all of their add ons definitely conflict with Flash Player and the browsers.

Let me know the results of the above and I may have you check for another file that this DLM Installs in your Program Files.

Thanks

I have Adobe Air, Adobe Download Manager, Adobe flash player 10 active X, Adobe flash player 10 plugin, adobe reader and adobe shockwave player. Which ones should I uninstall?

I also can confirm that my video was working fine around the end of august cause I checked my browser history on my other computer when I watched the videos and around the end of august is when my computer started playing the video fine. However, between August 30th and September 1st I installed A LOT of programs. Should I list them all?

Hi, well, not at the moment. You need to rid your system of that DLM etc. You can do that after we take care of the DLM. The DLM is not needed unless you are downloading a very large file. Flash Player is what, 3MB, tops? Some Windows updates are much larger than that:-) The DLM is to download large files by compressing them. I doubt that a under 3MB file needs compressed, it wouldn't even have time! However Adobe uses the DLM, it is supposed to disconnect but many times it does not and installs add ons which are not needed but conflict.

Do that first and then we'll see about the programs. It won't be the programs per se, it will be add ons they Install, that can conflict.

You always must keep in mind, that Flash Player works thru the browser and even tho, we're discussing videos and FPS's and HD, etc. it is Flash Player and the browser behind it all. Mess with the browser or that Flash Player ActiveX Control that's in the browser with add ons, then there is a problem:-)

I just uninstalled the Adobe Download Manager, so should I restart my computer now? Cause it didn't ask me to reboot or anything.

Also, I doubt it's my browser that has the problem because this is happening for every browser I use in terms of that video getting low FPS. I've used Firefox, IE, Chrome and Opera and it's all the same. I'm guessing it has something to do with the player itself.

Hi, yes Reboot. Always make it a habit to Reboot whenever you Uninstall anything or Install anything.

Then follow the rest of the procedures I listed in that post.

Since the issue is affecting all browsers, then like I said, these DLM add ons are most likely in those other browsers as well, as plugins, add ons or extensions. You need to check them also. Do you want me to bring up all of the threads that I have worked on for a year so you can see all of the problems these cause? LOL

Now, I am going out for a while, be back on later.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Hi, I hope you have a sense of humor, if not, disregard what I am going to say. Your attention span is "lagging", LOL

Go back to Post#11 where I said what to do next. And also check in your other browsers for those add ons.

yeah I have a sense of humor. XD

I can't find what you said I should look for now in any of the browsers. BTW, does downloadupdater have anything to do with flash?

What should I do next?

Hi, good that you have a sense of humor:-) Ok it is also good that those add ons that you had are no longer in IE and you didn't find any in the other browsers.

What is a downloadupdater? I know about the Downloader and the Updater, but never heard of that.

After you got your computer and after you Installed Flash Player and BEFORE you Installed a LOT of programs, was there a time where Flash Player worked properly with Videos, etc?

If you have any other Adobe programs other than what you have already listed, then list those. If not, then Go to your add ons and list for now only those that are Adobe related. This will include ActiveX Controls, BHO's, Helpers or Extensions. Also let's do just IE now.

Do you use an Anti-Virus and if so which one? Are there any Anti-Virus add ons in the IE browser?

Thanks,

eidnolb

I don't know what downloadupdater is, I just found it in my plugins and figured I'd list it to see if you knew.

When I first got the computer, the video was laggy just like it is now. Then somehow it started working fine a few days later but I can't remember if I did anything to make the video play better. The only plugins I can see for firefox that relate to adobe are Adobe Acrobat, Shockwave Flash, and Shockwave Director. For IE I see Adobe PDF Link Helper and the flash player.

I use AVG for my anti-virus, and I also use Malwarebytes too. For IE, I have 3 toolbars from AVG, but the only one currently enabled is safesearch.

Hi, thanks. I will find out what that downloadupdater is and let you know, as I have never heard of it, glad you did mention it.

What I want to do now is take a look at your Flash files.

Go to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash   Open Flash and post back all files listed. The files that are NPSWF you will need to right click on and then click on Properties in order to obtain the version numbers.

Then I want you to look for Shockwave Flash Object, make sure it is Enabled and it should say vs 10.1.82.76, look here for that:

Go to Tools, Manage add ons. This should open in Toolbars & Extensions. Look down to your left for "Show"(very light text). Use the drop down arrow and look in All Addons and or Run without Permissions.

It is important to make sure that Flash Player is Installed properly and that no add ons are conflicting.

After that we'll take a look at the Adobe add ons and the AVG. In the meantime, I'll check on that downloadupdater.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Here's all the files:

Flash10i.ocx

Flashinstall.log

flashplayer.xpt

FlashUtil10i_ActiveX.dll

FlashUtil10i_ActiveX.exe

FlashUtil10i_Plugin.exe

NPSWF32.dll (version 10.1.82.76)

and there's also the FlashPlayerTrust folder which has rpconverter.cfg in it.

Shockwave flash object is also 10.1.82.76

Hi, ok thanks for the files. They are all correct and the Shockwave Flash Object also, so that is good to know.

On that downloader updater, you mean that is the name of the publisher? no version?  Toolbar?, hmmm. that npdnu rings a bell. There is a youtube downloader, but it is NOT from youtube and Norton and AVG have come out and said it's Spyware/Malware, so don't mess with it. From what I just read it can change some settings on your system and changes your Search provider!!

Ok, I'll check on that npdnu. I'm almost sure I have something on it.

http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?locale=nl&comments_parentId=486357&forumId=1

That link is why I can't stand the worthless Firefox Forum!!!

Are you sure there is no other info in your FF plugins/addons/extensions on this npdnu? There has to be a name of some sort?  You are right, something very odd about it.  Anything by the name of MetaStream?

Thanks,

eidnolb
