How to manually install old flashplayer.app Mac OSX

Advisor ,

Hi, I need to downgrade FlashPlayer so a certain software Leap Frog Connect LFC can use it.

LFC pointed me to the adobe flash players archive:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html

When I extract the specified version, it ONLY give me a "Flash Player.app" (not an installer).

MY QUESTION IS where do I manually place the flashplayer.app so it engages?

(I tried placing it in Applications, doesn't work)...

Mac G4, 10.4.11

Hi, to follow up on my last post about holding off. What browsers are you using?

The version that Leap Frog advised is the one you want, not the other one that you opened. HOWEVER, the vs 10.0.45.2 is a very old version and does not have the security fixes that the 10.1 have. That is one thing. The other is that if you only use one browser and Install this 10.0 version, websites that have updated to the 10.1 and latest may not function properly.

What I would suggest to you is if you need to Insta

Hi, what version of Flash Player are you attempting to Install? Any particular version of Flash Player that you extract would be an executable and you would Install it the same way as always. Flash Player is not a standalone program.

The latest Flash Player version is 10.1.102.64 and this is the 4th update. However version 10.0 had many updates and so the zip file is very large. It contains all of the updates for ALL platforms, Windows, Mac, etc.

I'm not familiar with Leap Frog Connect LFC, but they should be able to tell you what version you need.

Thanks,

Hi, thanks for not letting me hit air on this one.

Leap Frog Connect instructions:

Then you need to download the 10.0 archive and extract and install the file listed below.

Flash Player 10,0,45,2

Mac OS X
- Plugin: flashplayer10r45_2_ub_mac.dmg (This is the version that you need to locate in the Archive.)

At this link

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html

I downloaded

Archived versions> Older Archives> Flash Player 10 (157 MB)

I opened

flashplayer10r45_2_mac_sa.app.zip

and the "Flash Player.app" appears (About says it is actually 9,0,262,0):

Picture 2.png

I just noticed it also extracted

flashplayer10r45_2_ub_mac.dmg

which contains

Adobe Flash Player.pkg

That's probably  the actual installer, but the .app confused me...when I get to the other computer I will try it...

Hi, if you haven't done anything yet, hold off. I think there may be a problem, but need to read your last post.

Just F.Y.I.  the 'sa' part of the file indicates that is the standalone player.  This is not an installer, but an executable application (Flash Player Projector, to play local Flash files).

What I would suggest to you is if you need to Install this vs for Leap Frog's requirements, then do so in one browser and use that for Leap Frog.

Install into a different browser, the latest Flash Player vs 10.1.102.64 so you can access websites that have updated.

Now another thing, the browser that you choose to Install the 10.0, you will need to Uninstall whatever is there FIRST, reboot and then Install and Reboot again.

If you already are using another browser and want to Install the latest FP into that and already have an older version Installed, then you will need to Uninstall in the same manner.

Hope this isn't confusing, but let me know.

Thanks,

eidnolb

P.S. I am on a late late lunch and will check your response asap.

Hi, the installer was indeed contained in the .dmg (I have no idea why the v9 .app was in the 10 .zip?).

The app that requires the old Flashplayer is the actual LFC software (I don't know how to install it into one web browser), but LFC is working.

10.0.45.2 is a very old version and does not have the security fixes that the 10.1 have.

That is a great tip, I will uninstall it and reupdate to the latest as soon as I get the Leapster2 game updated...

Hi, Yes, I think the .dmg is the Package needed for Mac? I'm not as familiar with Mac as the PC, but that is my understanding.

If Leap Frog requires that vs of FP, then you wouldn't want to update to the 10.1 vs, since it wouldn't work on the Leap Frog software, if I am understanding correctly on that.

That is why I suggested using another browser, as Firefox, etc. and Install the latest FP in that. In other words you would have one browser with FP Installed with the version required for Leap Frog, but the other browser you would have the latest FP Installed into that one and use whichever browser you needed.

Don't forget to let me know what browsers you are using/versions.

Well, Windows is out with their Patch Tuesday updates, which I haven't even started to Install:-) Updates, Updates, that is what it has come to. I don't know how they expect us to get our Christmas shopping done, LOL

Thanks,
