Installing Adobe Flash Player 10.0.42 Plugin for Firefox 3.5.7

I currently have Firefox 3.5.7 installed and am trying to access a site that requires the current version of Adobe Flash Player (10.0.42). When I download and install it, the website still doesn't recognize flash player being installed.

I go to Adobe.com, make sure I am downloading the one for WinXP/Firefox and install it, then it says that it is successfully installed. However, when I try to access the site, and it says that the current version of flash player is not installed, with a link to the adobe site to download the latest version (which I already did).

I have tried uninstalling the flash player, from both Windows and Adobe's uninstaller, and reinstalling with no success. I have even tried uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox, still nothing. For fun, I tried updating IE, and it works fine, but I REALLY don't like IE.

Another note: when I uninstall Flash Player, it doesn't remove it from my machine (add/remove program list), even when Windows asks, "Adobe ... is already uninstalled, would you like to remove it from the list?" Additionally, when I go to Adobe's Flash Player version tester site, it reports that IE is running version 10.0.42, but when I access it with FF, it shows a link to download the latest Adobe FP.

Please post the URL to the website that is not recognizing Flash Player 10.0.42 is installed in Firefox?

When you navigate to this site using IE (with Flash Player 10.0.42) does it recognize Flash Player is installed or no?

Thank you in advance.

To answer your question, yes it works in IE, but not Firefox.

hello Melon00

I apologize for not responding sooner.  Can you please provide the following:

1. What OS is the problem occuring on?

     32- or 64-bit?

2. What files are in the following directory:

     if 32-bit: \Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

     if 64-bit: \Windows\SysWow64\Macromed\Flash

3. In the Add/Remove Programs list (programs and features on vista or windows 7), what Flash Player products are listed, including their version?

Thank you in advance.

hi mvargas,

Don't sweat it, I was only trying to "bump" the thread, and my last comment was not intended for you directly.

The problem resides on a work computer, and I won't have access to it until the 19th. However, I looked at all the files and versions on my home computer (which works fine) and I have Firefox 3.5.7 and Flash Player version 10.0.22.87. I am afraid to upgrade to the 10.0.42 version, since I like to follow the philosophy, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Some of the files are different, but I will have to get an actual list with names to compare.

Thanks for keeping up with my thread.

Are you just posting to link your website all over the forums?  First you post in the Adobe Reader forum, with links that contain no PDF at all; now you post in the Flash Player forum with links that do not contain any Flash content!

P.S. this topic is 3½ years old; there is really no need to resurrect such old topics!

Hi Melon00, normally I don't comment on a thread that someone else is helping on, but the comment you made about using FF and going to the test site and it shows a link to download the latest Adobe FP, go ahead and do it. The test site is detecting that the plugin for the FF browser is not installed. That is my opinion. It just happened to me a couple of days ago. Each browser needs their own. IE uses an ActiveX, FF uses a plugin. Every website is looking for that Control and they want the latest version and they also want the latest version of Java. When you uninstall, you are correct it doesn't remove it from Add/Remove, it removes from the browser add ons. FP is not a program per se but a browser add on and that is where it works.

That's all:-)
