Network error during flash player installation

New Here ,
Jan 10, 2011 Jan 10, 2011

I accidentally deleted the previous version of flash player and am now trying to download the new version. Can anyone help me with a 'network error' I am getting during installation on internet explorer 8.  There is no problem with the network as I am working on the internet with no other problems.   According to IE8, it has a cipher speed of 128-bit.  I have tried the following:

- turning off anti-virus software

- changing security settings as per a previous post

- manually installing (could not download the file)

- running the uninstall software even though no other version is showing on my list of applications - could not access the .exe file

- using a different web browser.  The problem was worse in the case of Opera and Firefox as the download did not start at all in those cases

This is very frustrating and does not seem to be a common problem.  Can anyone help me?

It sounds like something must be blocking it, maybe windows firewall? Or maybe permissions, try right clicking on IE and running it as administrator before installing the Flash player through IE.

Should do the trick!

Thanks,

Another option... if that doesn't work, download the EXE installer here http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html then close all browser windows and run it.

Thanks,

Hi Steve, no problem. Feel free to help on any threads that you can, we can always use it We do get many new users that want to use the Forums for advertising and that really isn't allowed. However, you can put that info in your Profile if you like.

Look up at the top of any thread that you are on and click on "Stuff".

Otherwise, thanks for helping:-)

Thanks for the feedback folks. Unfortunately, I fear I may have more

problems than just Adobe Flash Player. I tried your advice on manual

installation but I had problems downloading the exe files for

uninstalling and installing. Wouldn't start for me - I got no error

messages. Tried saving on to my desktop but again would not start for

me with no error message. This was with antivirus option on my McAffee

off. Any advice or comment? All this was on both internet explorer

and Opera(v11). A question from the computer illiterate - is there a

more effective way of turning off antivirus McAffee protection other

than opening the McAffee window and choosing off for each option?

Thanks again,

Niall

Hi, when you receive an email notification, please page down and use the "visit this message page" when replying. This avoids copying the entire message again. It will take you directly here. One other thing to mention, any links need to be clicked on here in the thread and not the email itself. They don't work well from the emai.

First on the Uninstaller link and the Installer links. When you are on that site and click on the EXE Installer for IE, doesn't a window open where you can select "RUN" or "SAVE". If you click on SAVE and then select the location as your Desktop, are you saying when you get ready to use it that it doesn't work? Are you clicking RUN? I'm not clear on what is happening.

On McAfee, did you mean "literate" instead of illiterate? LOL Anyway, McAfee and Norton are both problems when trying to Install Flash Player. Let me know the name of the version of McAfee that you use. Various disabling procedures depending on the versions.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Sorry eidnolb - couldn't reply on the website, so I am replying through

email again. No, when I click the exe installer, I get no message to

run or save. The progress bar at the bottom of the screen looks like

it is starting something but just freezes. The McAfee security centre

version I am using is 9.15. The virus scan version is 13.15.

Illiterate. Definitely iliiterate.

Hi, It appears to me that you do have a different problem. I don't know what OS you are using or Service Packs if applicable.

McAfee wouldn't even be considered, since you can't even SAVE the Uninstaller or Installer. Anti-Virus programs can only interfere when trying to Install. They would have no effect on downloading as far as I know. The network error you received isn't coming from Adobe Flash Player.

I really can't help you since I don't have any experience with Network Issues or errors.

You may want to contact your ISP and see if they can help in any way. If not, then perhaps Microsoft can help.

Hopefully you will be able to find out what the problem is.

If you get that solved, post back for further Flash Player questions.

You were right, it was a problem with my ISP. A helpful person on the

phone went through my router details. After a route reset and a change

in MTU details, flash player downloaded no problem.

Thanks for your help eidnolb,

Niall

Hi, well that is good news. Glad they were able to help. Hopefully you have been able to Install Flash Player and it is working properly.

Just a note on McAfee. They have addons in your browser, so if you start having any issue, try disabling them and see if that helps.

Thanks for replying back and letting us know the solution that you found.

Regards,

eidnolb

Hi, Download and SAVE the Uninstaller to your Desktop:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html

Download and SAVE the Installer for IE to your Desktop ( Use the EXE Installer)

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html

Download and SAVE the Installer for the non-IE browsers to your Desktop from the same link as IE (Use the EXE Installer)

Close all browser windows, disable any messenger services in your system tray(area near the clock)

If you use Norton or McAfee, disable them also.

Be sure to use the Administrator Account.

Then RUN the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.

Then RUN the Installer for IE, then the Installer for the non-IE, then Reboot.

Test here when finished: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

If you have any questions, provide your OS and browser versions of the non-IE ones when replying back.

Thanks,

eidnolb

Can you tell us the error number and full text of that error?

When you cannot download the installer from eidnolb's link, can you try to download from this link
