Problem with online streaming Ubuntu 14.04

Hi,
For about a week or so, but I'm assuming this has been going on longer, I've been trying to stream on Hulu (using the Firefox that came out yesterday and the one from last week) and I keep getting an error message. The network ads play normally but when it goes to play the show it blanks out and the screen says "One time loading for better viewing experience" and then doesn't play the video at all. The screen then changes to this:
I've gone through this entire list several times. It is not the second or third option I'm having issues with. I opened the terminal to see if I had the HAL package and my computer doesn't recognize it and tells me it doesn't exist but there is a similar thing but can't find or install it. I tried the suggested sudo apt-get install hal and sudo apt-get check hal to build a dependency tree, which succeeded but it wouldn't install and still said it wasn't there. I have the flash version 11.2.202.521 for Ubuntu, which is no longer being updated by Adobe. I tried to see if I missed something and tried to download an update anyway, but when I went to do that, the Software Center didn't recognize any Adobe plug-ins installed which I hadn't asked it to do. I know I have flash installed because I wouldn't have been able to get even as far as my screenshot and youtube is still working.
Scrolling through the Software Center comments I noticed a lot of other Ubuntu users complaining that Adobe just didn't work at all with us anymore period. I'd like some info from someone who understands this stuff better than I do because I'm at a total loss.
