I've been deploying flash updates thru SCCM for a long time using the MSI. With this update, many computers updated successfully, but about 200+ of them failed. Each computer I have looked at has the message "Product: Adobe Flash Player 14 ActiveX -- The version of the Player that you are trying to install is lower than what is currently installed." in event viewer. Attempting a manual install of the MSI produces a similar interactive message. The current installed version is definitely older than the one I am attempting to install. I am only able to re-mediate by manually uninstalling, and then installing 14.0.0.176. I could script and deploy an uninstaller, but I would rather the bug with the MSI be fixed.

The attached files are an attempt to distribute version 17. First, I run the "uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall" and then I run
msiexec /i C:\Source\flashrepair\install_flash_player_17_active_x.msi /qn /l*v c:\windows\logs\flash17AX.log
msiexec /i C:\Source\flashrepair\install_flash_player_17_plugin.msi /qn /l*v c:\windows\logs\flash17plug.log
These log files are attached and the Flashinstall.log is also attached.
Both MSI logs indicate successful installs but only the mms.cfg and flashinstall.log are the only files in c:\win\sys32\macromed\flash\

Hi bri316,
Looking at your log files, the uninstall is happening after the installation process, leaving the system without the player installed. The Flash Player entry is remaining in the Control Panel because an older version of the uninstaller is being used and it's not completely removing the newer Flash Player from the system.
Please download the latest version of the uninstaller from Uninstall Flash Player | Windows. Run the uninstaller, then run the installers.
Flash Player uninstallers are updated and released with each Flash Player release. If your regular deployment process includes first uninstalling the player, using the uninstaller, before installing you'll need to make sure to download the new uninstaller and use that in your deployment process.

Hi kungfujedis,
Did you run MsiZap on only the GUIDs in the list provided previously, or did you run them on additional GUIDs as well? If additional GUIDs, what are the GUIDs?
I am still reviewing the files you provided. I hope to have a response to you soon.

here are two more logs from yet another client that has the same behavior. (msizap, uninstall, reboot, install; 17 is in add remove, does not work).
https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/ca1b5ea4-3e0c-423e-9e30-8d9251710806
This one, in addition to what was previously described, would not re-install 17.0.0.134 manually (though it did install from the script, albeit non working), it kept asking for the path to the msi for 14. I had to add the GUIDs for all the versions of 14 to msizap before it would install 17 again.

Hi kungfujedis,
The last entry is for the standalone uninstaller and the entry previous to that is a background update (of 16.0.0.305) on February 5, 2015, which, based on the log file, was successful. The last MSI installation I'm seeing is 16.0.0.235 on 13-Jan-2015. All subsequent updates have been via the background update process, and the last entry being the uninstaller.
How, exactly, are you deploying version 17 to the client machines? Please provide a verbose MSI log file for the installation attempt and the msiexec command being used. Since the Flash Player install log file doesn't have a recent install attempt, only uninstall, it seems the failure is happening before it writes to the Flash Player log file. Hopefully the verbose MSI log file will provide some insight.
Thank you.

I enabled verbose logging, and here is the log of a new install attempt: https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/f8182d10-9e2e-47b0-970f-7064deacc053
To install, I'm using the command: start /wait msiexec /i install_flash_player_17_active_x.msi /q /norestart
This is run from the Powershell appdeploy toolkit. The powershell command is:
If ($InstallActiveX -eq 'yes'){execute-process -FilePath "install_flash_active_x.bat" -WindowStyle Hidden}
Where the batch file contains the above; start /wait msiexec /i install_flash_player_17_active_x.msi /q /norestart

I would be happy to do a gotomeeting/teamviewer/logmein or whatever session for you to poke around and gather info to get this resolved sooner. This is becoming very disruptive in our environment, as the machines that have "installation in progress" are unable to deploy any other software until that is fixed. And I'm hesitant to deploy the "fix" as is and leave flash broken.

Hi kungfujedis,
Thank you for providing the file. I understand your frustration and I'm sorry we haven't been able to resolve this for you. We can schedule a screen share session for early next week. Please PM me a few time slots you have available and we'll work out the details via PM.

@m_vargas Thought I'd add to this ...
The problem is that the `IsIllegalUpgrade` function/script is returning `1` which then sends `3` to the MSI. This function/script should never be called during an uninstall. If it has to be called, you should add a check to determine if we're uninstalling.
Here's my log: Adobe_Flash_Player_17_ActiveX_17.0.0.169.log - Pastebin.com

Thanks Justin. Looks like part of my problem is that the mms.cfg we originally pushed out on a number of PCs has been over written. And people are getting hit a second time around.

Justin, are you find that there is an uninstall taking place at all? It seems that when users get the message and we go back to check, they no longer have flash installed. It is strange.

Bri,
I deployed the mms.cfg file as Adobe support suggested but the issue persists. I have users getting the message but Adobe 16 is installed most of the time. I have to uninstall Adobe 16, and then I use the cleanup utility from MS to remove what is left of the install. Then when I restart, the GPO cleanly installs Flash.

This removed what versions? I don't find same product line in .msi > Upgraded. Its in Component ? Nothing. For example MsiZAP dont removed Flash 16.0.0.305.
And other question, msizap removed only registry entry or also files ? Must unistall manualy exe cpl and many other to install flash 17.xx ?
A tutorial will be greatly appreciated

Hi Ash,
This removes versions 15.0.0.152 through 16.0.0.296, what we know to be impacted by the bug. The fix was in 16.0.0.305, so that MSI GUID wasn't included. I've updated my previous post with additional information.
msizap uninstalls and removes the registry information for the versions listed, which were impacted by the bug.

Hi m_vargas and thanks for your edit on first page
The fix doesn't work for me. This is even worst for me now. All computers on my domain have the bug and it started with 16.0.0.305 !!
Flash Flash 17.0.0.134 just doing the same thing. All computers are installing flash active x and other browser during one hour ! And actually after this hour of install final users have message : "The version of the Player that you are trying to install is lower than what is currently installed"
To make a good cleaning of flash player before installing the last. I thing i cleaning all computer correctly...
So for 16.0.0.305 product code is :
{68BC8140-3FAA-4419-B6EE-CCF60BE6DAB2} (active x)
{1D55DE93-486D-40F7-88F3-CF08578F82AA} (other browser)
17.0.0.134 :
{8C901387-B304-404D-93C0-E2E0C2D53D90} (active x)
{F22C3C05-B1D9-47FF-AA17-4F9DCBFE850F} (other browser)
Edited version (tested and based on this old one : http://serverfault.com/questions/441111/i-deployed-flash-player-via-a-software-installation-policy-h...)
