I've been unable to retain any .sol files created by anything in flash.
I've done a little investigation, and it seems all the SOL files in my C:\Documents and Settings\*****\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects are getting deleted every time a browser is opened (regardless of whether it's IE, Firefox, or Chrome). They are created by the .swf files just fine, and stay there until I open one of my browsers.
I've reinstalled both Flash and the browsers multiple times, to no avail. Is there anything else I can do or have overlooked?

From what I've read of SOL files, I don't understand what you would be saving them for.
They are "session specific" according to three sources I read, and are replaced upon starting a new browser session.
If you really need to have them, why not cut and paste them into a separate folder?
SOL files are a lot like "cookies". They won't have any affect on anything you do in Flash player on your system, only when you visit the site from which they were created. According to what I read, anyway.

The sol files are what are used by flash games to save your progress across sessions.
I can't retain my progress in any of them since they are getting deleted. Every time I quit and restart my browser, I have to start all over, which wasn't the case until about a month ago.

Well, that's a perfectly good reason to want them.
Have you made any changes to your browser settings in the last month?

Also, My settings aren't saved in the Global Storage Settings Panel. Any page I've gone to during that session will be shown, and I can change my preferences, but as soon as I start a new browser session, all my settings are reset and all pages I've visited in the previous session disappear.

It's independant of which browser I use, and the files created by one browser are deleted by opening another.
