Some Flash objects loading, others not

About two weeks ago I had to format my C: drive and reinstall windows, essentially starting over from the beginning with the exception of copying over some things I had saved on an external HD.

I reinstalled everything, and all was well, but just a few days ago I noticed that certain flash related things online weren't loading. I tried watching a video on Myspace, and all I got was a spinning circle

No matter how long I wait, it just spins, and spins, and never loads.

Then I noticed the myspace music players wouldn't load either.

Just a big blank space

However when you right click where the player should be, it's clear theres a flash object there.

I thought this was some issue with Myspace, but then I tried other sites as well.

Nothing ever seems to load.

And there is one other issue.

When you right click where the player should be, and click settings, you get the Flash settings to pop up, but it's frozen...

I can't uncheck to enable hardware acceleration, I can't click the help button, and I can't even click the close button. Nothing clicks.

Now, it's obvious it's a problem to do with Flash, and not the browser, because I get the exact same problems for the exact same websites in both Firefox, and IE8, both of which have Adobe Flash Player 10.0.42.34 installed.

Oh, and for the record, Youtube, Hulu, Google Video, Last.fm's Music Player, and pretty much ever flash based advertisement all load.  I'm not sure why those ones do, and the ones above don't, along with a few others.

So does anyone know what the issue is? I've uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Flash a few times, and nothing seems to help.

I am having the same problem.  I used access the settings in both my browsers but now it is just happening in Firefox 3.6.  When I right click a video at youtube.com or wherever it freezes up and I can't change the settings.  The settings works in Safari 4.  I am using Mac snow leopard 10.6.2.  Can someone please help?  I tried reinstalling flash player several times, but no good.  I am using 10.0.42.34.  I even tried install silverlight but that didn't work.

Hi timnchi, Please start your own thread now that you have registered today. This thread is all about XP, IE8, FF, Java

and this thread was started by Fuchikoma. You will get someone to help you that is familiar with Mac, which I am not.

There are other Mac users that will be glad to help you.

Thank you,

eidnolb

I had the same problem.  This fixed it in Firefox, but not IE8.  It seems I have two separate

issues, but I did find the fix for one...

Go to your flash player settings here:

http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html

Make sure you increase the amount of disk space websites can use to store information on.  Mine was ridiculously low at 100kb which must be the default setting as I never changed it.  I upped mine to 10kb and now my flash stopped freezing in Firefox.

This did NOT fix the problem in IE8 (XP SP3) where some content loads and some does not.  Again, they seem to be two separate issues.  If I find the answer to that, I will post it here.

Hope this works for you!

Hi gurtz, Please understand the Global Settings are each user's personal preferences. Those are choices and they are

made using the Global Settings. Some users don't want any website to store any information on their computers.

The setting that you chose is your personal choice, which is not a "fix" per se. No different than a user's choice on anything else.

Some Global Settings over rule others also, so one needs to read all of the instructions.

Better to also start your own thread, since it appears you just registered today. Or perhaps you started your thread and I just haven't seen it yet.

Regards,

eidnolb

P.S. Oh, isn't 100kb more than 10kb?  You said you increased your setting from 100kb to 10kb.

Apologies.

1.  I didn't realize this was your thread.  I read this thread when I was having this problem and thought I may share what worked for me.  Since the Firefox problem no longer exists, it is "fixed" in my humble opinion.  Since the site was one I was working on, I resized the objects and lowered my settings.

2.  If you look at the screenshot I posted, it shows 10mb, so 10kb was obviously no more of a typo than you typing gurtz instead of gurlz.

3.  I will be happy to start my own thread, as flash is still not working in IE8.

Best of luck to you, Fuchikoma andif you find an answer, please look up "my" thread and share it?  It would be most welcome!

eidnolb, thanks for "showing me the way."

Regards.

If a  webpage with the same flash content  does not work in all browsers, (Chrome, Opera, IE, Firefox, Safari, etc), go to Adobe's Global Manager web page http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager.html or just right click on the blank Flash player and select " Global Settings", navigate to Global Storage Settings Panel  and check the box that says "Allow third party flash content to store data on your computer". This setting applies to your user account ONLY and will have to be checked on every instance of a new user account on your computer(s).
