Sound randomly lowers itself on YouTube

Hey,

I've been having this really annoying problem that the sound on Youtube videos sometimes randomly gets lowered to barely hearable without any way to quickly fix it. (The volume slider on the video stays at the same place and I can still adjust it, but I can't make it loud enough.) If I close my browser or just pause the video and do something else for a while it fixes itself. I had this problem on Windows 7 and I'm still having it with Win8.1 on the same machine (clean install. both 64 bit). I mainly use Firefox, but I could reproduce it in Chrome as well. I have Flash version 11,9,900,117.

Thanks for your help

Google had a "code glitch" a few weeks back that "muted" every page on YouTube. That's where the volume is controlled, NOT in Flash Player - it only shows the controls the code has written.

It's quite possible that you have "cookies" reloading pages with the muted setting.

Try clearing your browser cache and history in each browser.

I'll do that, but like I mentioned, I had this problem on a previous operating system as well. It's been happening for a couple of months now. I just finally got enough of it, because today every single video seems to have this problem... It could very well be an issue with Google, I have no way of confirming or denying that, though I can say that it all seems to work fine in the html5 player.

Also, my problem is not the same as the one you described. Mine happens mid-video, the sound lowers to like 20%, but the volume slider stays exactly the same (so it all happens in the background, I have no way of controlling it).

edit: I deleted basically everything in Chrome, and the cookies in Firefox, but as I suspected it didn't do anything.

edit2: I just reinstalled Flash for Firefox and now it seems to be working okay, but it's always been like that - sometimes it's okay for weeks, then every second video is bugged. It's a really strange problem...

edit3: It's doing it again, just after a day.

edit4 (lots of edits, wow): Just happened on Vimeo as well. So it's not just YouTube...

Sorry for the bump, but no one has any idea what this is? I don't know where else I could ask this..

Had a similar problem and found a fix:

1. in Chrome address bar type "chrome://plugins"

2. disable Adobe Flash player
