Why won't Flash work? It has downloaded.....

New Here ,
Apr 26, 2009 Apr 26, 2009

Last week for no apparent reason,Flash decided not to work.

I noticed some pictures on E Bay were not coming up as usual and there was a small banner saying I needed to download Flash.

I did this.I closed all my browsers,(even MSN) and downloaded, then rebooted as instructed.

It says 'download successful',but I still have limited pictures and last night I found my You Tube clips have no sound.

I have done this 3 times.Each time I uninstall,then re install.

I have sent a question to the support area, but they won't get back 'til tomorrow....

I'm using IE.

Windows XP media centre.

I know you will need to know more but I am not a techie.

Hoping someone can help.

I have just been onto You Tube help, and have gone through exactly the same procedure.

And checked as they suggested on a global page is it?

My boxes were all ticked.

Sorry.forgot what they were...

But Flash should be working!!

Spoke to a techie friend today and he said quite a few of his friends have encountered the same problem....

So I rather think it is a problem with the Flash download.

I have been directed to Mozilla now,as apparently it will be easier to download Flash from there.

Not a solution, but it is a way around it I suppose....

Shall wait 'til tomorrow 'til the Flash techies get back..

Just hope they do.

I'm afraid that the "Flash techies" will probably send you back to this forum...

Reading through your posts it appears to me that you have done everything that is needed to run Flash Player. Especially if you can see the animation at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ then everything should work fine - no ideas why some sites will not work.

Could it be that you have any old OCX files in folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash ? (Flash10b.ocx should be the only one in there.)

Maybe this will help some of you.  I just solved my problem of videos not playing on www.msn.com.  It seems as though when you uninstall and reinstall Adobe Flash Player, not all of the files and folders are removed.  There are files left over in the "Documents and Settings" folder that may be corrupt.  Here is the response from the MSN Customer Support folks:

Black Screen, Flash does not load, or Player works on other sites but not MSN Video

If Adobe's Flash player fails to load at all --but only when going to http://videos.msn.com you may need to delete a file used by the Flash Player because that file may be corrupted.  Adobe's Flash stores various configuration settings for each web site and for each user.  If one of those data files has become corrupted, the Flash player will just hang while trying to load.  These files are not deleted when you uninstall flash, so even if you uninstalled and reinstalled flash, you may need to perform the following steps.

To fix this problem on a PC running XP, Delete the files at:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player

To fix this problem on a PC running Vista Delete the files at:

C:\Users\ YOUR USER NAME \AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player

After you have deleted the files, restart Internet Explorer and browse back to http://videos.msn.com, When you return to the video site, the Flash player will recreate the deleted files above with default files.  This should resolve the issue. Please note: If on your PC the issue remains, an updated version of MSN Video is scheduled to be released that will solve the problem in late June, 2008.

We understand that you may not be familiar with Adobe Flash, additional support is available here:

Hi all.

Update on my Flash player.

Got an E mail from Adobe support this morning.

They said as it is a free download they are not in a position to help any further.

Great.

I am going to download Mozilla as directed and download Flash from there.

Apparently there is more chance of it working from Mozilla.

What I do not understand is for 3 years I have downloaded the new Flash when prompted and this is the first time I have had a problem.

And I am not the only one.

I spoke to a techie friend yesterday who said lots of his clients are having the same problem.

There is something amiss with the new Flash, and I think it should be reviewed by someone, and rectified.

Thanks for your answers.
