There is no alternative plug-in to Flash Player.  The alternative is for content providers to migrate their content to some other technology.

No.  The alternative is for content developers to make new content that doesn't use Flash.  AIR is one option.  WebGL is another.  But the most common approach is HTML5, JavaScript and CSS which every browser supports without any special players or plugins.   If you're not a content creator, there's nothing you can do at your end.  Flash Player is dead.
